Well, it is control line and it is big.  Fairly well done.  There was a Berkeley kit of the P-38, carved balsa shells, based on a Walt Musciano design, but it is small.  There might have been a large CL P-38 from Japan many years ago, but maybe not even this big.  There have been a number of CL construction articles in the magazines for some Nationals caliber P-38's, but not this big.  There may have been some large P-38 kits for RC over the years, but I do not have any material on them.  Go to E-Bay and you can fine any number of plans  and semi-kits for large RC P-38's in various sizes.

There was a Nationals winning scale CL P-38 published sometime in the early 90's in (I think) FM.  I have the plans somewhere.  Not sure it was quite that big however.  It was an incredible airplane.  Should remember the name of the fellow who built it but I simply can't!

GSCB'er George L. Gaydos, Jr. built a beautiful replica of the P-38 YIPPEE, the 5000th built and painted red at the factory.
George won Precision Scale at the Nats twice....it wasn't that big, but the detail was incredible.

Bill Suarez built a stunt P-38 with a single engine.... it was published and I believe a few short kits were produced.

By the story told about it, supposedly it was flown around 1955. The owner let my uncle fly it after he taught him how to fly. The guys name was Fritz something...

Thanks Peabody.  It was indeed George Gaydos's magnificent P-38 I was referring to.  I've always wanted to build one but life always seems to get in the way....One way or another!  I found the plans today and spent a couple of hours drooling over them and the FM article!  George was of course a master scale builder and while I never had the opportunity to meet him (which I regret) I'm sure he is still missed by many!
