New Enya 15CXS
« on: January 21, 2016, 03:40:47 PM »
I just received a Enya 15CXS I plan on using on a ringmaster.  Beautiful engine.  According to the spec sheet it likes nitro, and will spin a large range of props, even a 9-4.  I weighed it with muffler and it is 6.3 ounces.  Here's the specs, and instructions for those interested.

Really cool! A very popular combo is a ringmaster and a fox 35. The fox is 7 oz. So for weight and CG purposes, your new enya should be a great option.

I wonder how it compares to the OS FP 15.

Hello Randy,
I got two of them from the latest batch. They are really class engines, unlike the cheap end, OS offering. The Enya 15CX is perhaps the best 15 sized engine I have used. There are better engines but they are diesels and I am not going there on a US forum!

Hey Randy,  going by spec sheets, the CXS is listed at .51, and the FP at .41 hp.  The CX has duel ball bearings, and ABC PC.

Maybe Andrew has run both, and can share the difference of power.  I think it will be a perfect match for the ringmaster.  Just need to find the right prop.

Andrew, does the engine have a broad needle range, ( doesn't run away, with rich settings)?

Thanks for the answers.  I asked the question because I'm building a Pathfinder twin and plan to use FP15s as per the original but would consider another 15 if it was in fact a little more powerful but still reliable and reasonably easy handling.  For instance, I have several  Fora FAI combat 15 engines that turn 28 - 29000 RPM and are imminently more powerful than the FP's but would make very poor selections for such an application as the twin.  So my question was perhaps more toward whether they could possibly compare to the FP's but be a little more powerful.  For instance will they perform on 8-4 props or do they need smaller props to gain RPM etc.

Thanks

Check out the spec sheet in the original post.  It lists suggested props for the CXS as 8-9", 4-6 pitch in the 9-12K rpm range.  Which seems perfect.  I'm curious on the needle range.  On the RC side it looks comparable to the fp, la.  Still waiting for Andrew to reply.  Have snow on the ground, with more on the way with temps below 0 the last couple of weeks.  It'll be months before I can fire mine up.  Back to the building board.

Thanks Gonzo,
I missed that in the original post.  Guess I'll have to try to get one or two and give them a try!

Is the 15CXS available? The Enya website is its usual cryptic self and indicates "sold out" but that could have been years ago. I guess I can email Ken Enya (he is pretty good responding to emails) but wonder if there is another current source?

I just had a look in the 'shopping' section  http://www.enya-engine.com/store15/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_9  and it's showing as available. It's not in the 'catalog' section, but that probably hasn't been updated, and isn't a reliable guide to what they've got in stock anyway.

There was a good review of the 15CX in December's 'Aeromodeller'. With a 6.5mm venturi, it attained 0.45 bhp, versus 0.53 bhp with a 7.0mm venturi.  There were figures for lots of different props, but to give you an idea, with an APC 8x4 it managed 15100 and 16200 respectively, on the two venturi sizes tested.

I'd get myself one, but I've already got more .15s (and Enyas, for that matter) than I can ever use.

If I read the above web sight correctly price is  just over $100 + shipping

Club members turned near 20 thousand with LA 15s. Sorry I don't remember the prop. FP15s ran a bit faster.
