I used it after Brett recommended it before.
It can be purchased at Wal-Mart and does not
contain ammonia so it does not affect dope paint.
It is the best I have used so far. Windex contains
ammonia.

   And I got it from the always-innovative and charter member of the JCT, one Mr. Phillip T. Granderson.

   It's also available at Safeway, and probably Kroger's*, although we don't have those around here. It also does great for glass cleaning.

For heavy oil like castor PB Blaster works really well and cleans right down to the shine. Then use Sprayway to finish the job.

My buddy "Bob D." uses regular paint thinner on his 20 point IC models.

Doesn't need anything on the 'lectrics.

Believe it or not, Naptha straight out of the can completely de-greases, doesn't harm a dope finish and leaves no residue. I've proved that a couple of times to non believers.

I mix my own...generally 95% windshield washer fluid, a squirt of Dawn liquid detergent and 5% (which is a strong %) ammonia. Sometimes I split the windshield fluid with Dollar Store all purpose cleaner ($1 for 40 oz) or plain water...other times I substitute sudsy ammonia for the squirt of detergent. It cuts dirty and dried castor and has never showed signs of removing color dope. None of my planes have clear over the color. I keep two spray bottles handy and one is a diluted batch for cleaning my hands at the field. If memory is right I got the basic formula off ISKY's Control Line board way back.

Bleche-Wite tire cleaner. Also works great used as a spotter in the laundry getting rid of grease stains and grime.

Dow "Scrubbin' Bubbles" and Brawny paper towels. S.B. Comes in a handy and compact aerosol can. Paper towels are not very compact, but rough enough to help out a little with gnat removal. Shove the used paper towels into the cardboard tube until you have a chance to 86 them into the paper recycling bin at home.

Cheap household cleaner containing sodium hydroxide removes the oil very well, and is safe for the finish on all of my planes.

I'm a cheapo and use the same stuff from Wally World that I put in the vehicles wind shield washer tank. Also the cheapest paper towels I can get. The wife doesn't like me using old T shirts or old shirts after buttons are removed.

windshield washer fluid. It's water, alcohol and soap.

Perfect for the little extra you have left over from filling the tank on the car.

Add a shot of dish soap, and some extra alcohol.

Use a reused spray bottle.

Dump the rest of the gallon in the washer fulid tank on the car.

Hi Friends, I have been making my own blend of spray for many years! Half of my mixture is made up of one (1) ounce of Dawn Dish soap added to one (1) gallon of water. The other half in either Fantastic, Fabuloso, or what ever the cheapest all purpose cleaner happens to be. I pour a needed amount of the all pourpose cleaner into a measuring beaker, then added it to a separate container, followed by the same amount of the Dawn and water mix. From this container I refill my recycled spray bottle for my trips to the field.

Never use any Ammonia since it will tarnish your polished Aluminum Spinners! I have learned this the hard way.

I use Windex wit out till the neck of th rubbing alcohol added to it. I take the windex bottle brand new and empty it out till the neck of the bottle is empty. Then i add rubbing alcohol til the bottle is full. Cuts the oil and cleans real well.

It must be the concentration of ammonia you were using...my polished Fox spinners (the ones that came with Fox engines) and spinner nuts still look the same after many years of cleaning with my home brew cleaner with a low % of ammonia. Engines look the same too.

I was using Windex Lemon cleaner and had some Tru Turn Spinners on my engines back then and they got very ugly looking! I polished them with Simachrome and they've been fine since I been using my home brew! To each his own!

I decided to see what full strength ammonia would do to a polished Fox aluminum spinner nut and to Sig color dope. I applied straight ammonia out of the jug to a cloth and wiped a dripping wet coat on the spinner, let it set 30 minutes and did it again. That was about 4 hours ago and the spinner has no visible changes. I also wiped straight ammonia on an area of Sig yellow dope on a profile fuse and it didn't faze the dope either. Maybe they will show something as more time goes by.

Years ago I received a hospital laundry additive called "Decon 75". Approximately 5% solution with water cleans everything slick, no noticeable side effects after 30 years use.

Automobile washer fluid, the -20F with extra bug soap, whatever brand is on sale. Usually about $4 per gallon, so yea, the expensive stuff.

This is all I use in my cars since they are parked outside most of the time and I got sick of frozen squirters years ago.
