Saw a picture of very unique looking models. Can anyone shed some light as to who made them, when , size, plans location, etc.

This won't be much help, but I recently saw a post about a T-38 CL stunter.  The problem is I don't know where.   It sure has a T-38 look or maybe a F-5.

I started the T-38 post and got the info I was looking for. But these two models don't look like T-38's to me. Maybe the tail a little bit, but not the canopy area for sure.

You are right, Clint.  The overall profile and even the wing look a lot like a T-38, but the canopy is way wrong.  It shouldn't have a prop on the nose, either.

The Commodore is by Claus Maikis, published in Feb 73 Aeromodeller.  50 in. span.  As stated in one of the photo captions, "Certainly a distinctive model".

I think the AMA plans service plans are listed alphabetically.  I found plans I wanted there.  If I can do it anyone can.

I would not have the slightest idea how to do a year-by-year search for a set of plans on the AMA listing.

"Generally", the plans are listed by the name of the model.  For example, Commodore starts with a "C".  Behold, "Commodore" is listed in the "C" list.

If the airplane is a scale model, the listing will "normally" be under the manufacturer.  "Sometimes", a scale plane will  be under the prefix designation.  But "sometimes", the scale plane will be under the popular name of the aircraft.  Models of homebuilts are listed "normally" under either the designer or the builder.

If the AMA plans service has a set of plans, it "sometimes" takes a bit of imagination and perserverence to find them.

It is AMA plan # 31330 for $19.00...

Go to plans, look for Commodore under "C", peruse the available Commodores until you reach the one by Maikis. It has the AMA plan number as well as the old John Pond number.

Locating it is simple...once you have done it a few times. So many planes...so little time.

That's ok, I've already found the plans in the AMA plans database. Ther are actually TWO set of plans:

AMA #31330
Pond #84B4

I tried calling the number provided to place the order but none picked up. I wish there was an electronic version though. I have a very pleasant email exchange with Mr. Maikis. He suggested several improvements to the design which I would love to be able to make on the plans.

(Clip)

There are actually TWO set of plans:

AMA #31330
Pond #84B4

(Clip)

In order to minimize confusion, in this and most instances there are not two separate or different plans, though many plans on that list have two numbers.  The AMA collection started when they purchased the John Pond collection.  I am not sure of the date, but that would have been at least 10 to 15 years ago.  The Pond collection was quite extensive and had a plan number assigned to each plan in that collection.  When the AMA took the collection and got set up to make plans available, a new numbering system was assigned.  The AMA plans service has been able to add to that collection and continued to assign the AMA plans numbers.  That is why some of the plans now listed only have an AMA peculiar plan number.

(How Pond got started with that collections and how it grew is a story in itself.  At least, some people in the AMA/Model Aviation recognized the value of that collection and were able to purchase it before it would have likely been destroyed after the passing of John Pond.)
