Johnnie Casburn Miss Behave version 1 and 2
« on: November 27, 2015, 06:04:31 PM »
OK, Brother C/L aficionados,  I know I did not dream this one! LL~  I distinctly remember a first version Miss Behave that was for Sparkers.  A typical '40s design that might have only gone round and round.  Definitely OTS legal.  Therer was also a 2nd version Miss Behave for stunt in the mid '60s.  About 50" W.S., maybe slightly more.  This was a model I dearly wanted (for some strange reason) during my HS years.  I have never seen plans for either one, can anyone help out this poor old mountain boy with knowledge of where to acquire a set of plans for the '60s model??  (plans for the first Sparker version would be icing on the cake!)

Thank you, I will be forever grateful (or for at least 24 hours!).

You are correct on the two versions of the Miss Behave. I have some bits and pieces of one, and some REALLY tattered and incomplete plan pieces from the first one. I have seen adds for it also in the old mags. I think it was a model that you could build as a monoplane or biplane if my memory serves me correctly. The second version had a constant chord wing and was sort of SIG Bansheeish looking with a more rearward canopy. The only one I ever was was one that Tom Lay brought to VSC in one of my early trips there. I wouldn't mind having a kit or the plans either. I  got out bid on a kit on evilBay so they are out there.

Hello Brother Bill!  I have a pristine Miss Behave kit.  Maybe Santa will get a copy of the plans and send them.

Bill,

The first one is Plan# 82A5 in the Pond directory and has a 32" WS. You can use that number as a cross reference for a set from the AMA plan service.

Good luck, Jerry

Just found this in an ebay search:

   http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=&_dct=1&_sop=1&_armrs=1&_pcats=2562%2C220&_osacat=34054&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEFSRCHX%3ASRCH&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=miss+behave&_sacat=34054

   It's for the first version.

Hey Dave! Let me know how much for a set of plans if you wouldn't mind. Or maybe get yours scanned and email the file? Might be easier, quicker, cheaper.
  Thanks a lot,

I built the version 2 kit in the mid 60's.  Used a whole tube of HobbyPoxy.  I honestly don't remember what happened to it.  I do remember that Jack Sheeks told me it was way too heavy to fly well.

This post sure brings back memories! 1947 Christmas was one to remember for me. Santa brought me a Baby Miss Behave and an O&R 19 sparker. Never did finish airplane as it was over my head at the time. Ran the O&R mounted to an apple box for many hrs of enjoyment, but could never get it to keep running after disconnecting the two 1.5 telephone batteries (3volts) I still cherish those memories. I still don't know why the hobby store clerk did not sell my mother(Santa) an O&R 23 and the Miss Behave instead. Richard

Miss Behave (50") version) was the second full size stunter I made after a Nobler. Much easier to build and a good flier. Crashed it trying to learn the pattern and went back to carrier. Mine had a McCoy 35, good luck with the project. 8)

I have prints for both the Miss Behave and the Baby Miss Behave. There were two iterations for the "large" Miss Behave, a 1945 version which had a built up wing and covered with a thin mahogany skin, about 170 sq in area showed an Atwood Champion for power!! The 1946 version was the same basic model but came with solid balsa wings which came airfoiled. See the site referenced in Dan,s earlier post. My plan is the first version. Both used a flat bottom section, very thin so all I ever saw one do was go round and round. Very popular model with an Ohlsson 60 up front. I was poor, could only manage a Baby version! The later model with a symmetrical section came later, I would guess about '48 or so, a totally different airplane, much larger and a decent stunt airplane.
When I moved to Texas I looked up Johnny Casburn and asked jf he still had any plans of the models and unfortunately he did not, he was doing RC stuff by then,1995.

I have a NIB kit of the second version of "Miss Behave", had it since the late 80's, keep meaning to build it but a few dozen others got built instead, some day.

I remember Bill Wilson bringing one to VSC 18. I'm assuming it was the larger version. Not exactly a real stunner with that funky cockpit and ugly rudder.

George you are welcome.  Seven plan sets were sent out on Monday and should be arriving.  Now to see how many Miss Behaves get out to classic circles this year!
