Indoor CL flying at SAC Museum in Nebraska
« on: January 14, 2017, 08:27:33 PM »
The SAC Museum had their annual winter open house for the model airplane clubs of Nebraska and Iowa so we had our club display up and I also got all the RC guys to give me a few minutes of airspace to myself to fly my electric 1/2A skyray through the pattern.  It is actually pretty tough flying in there.  Have to split the light fixtures on the ceiling to clear them on overhead maneuvers.  They also have about a 15' diameter fan and its usually off but not today so had a wind pushing me down from directly above lol.  Plus you are blinded by looking at the lights overhead and my plane is black.  Anyway it was a good time, here is the flight video.

In this video you can see briefly at about 1:35 mark and then several times after 2 minutes the chop saw, I mean fan in the ceiling I was talking about the flyers were up against lol.  This plane is an electric pusher quick agile thing called an Inavder.  It chews up the hangars space rather quickly but puts on a good show lol.

I was just about to ask about mid airs with that many planes flying when it happened attend of video.  Looks like a great place for indoor electric control line scale.

If some is good, and more is better, then too much is just right!

Jared, Very cool. Would you please share what motor / esc / lipo you are using?

The skyray is on 3s 500mah lipo, brodak simple timer, twisted hobby 2202 crack series motor 1620kv, and 12 or 18 amp esc I think.  It could use just a touch more power yet and its a touch tail heavy so a little bigger motor would be better, but its comparable to a regular cox .049 I would say.  As you can see I can loosely get it through the pattern with skipping extra level laps between maneuvers.  I have a cox Hyper Viper that I plan using the wing out of and making a profile fuse to make a better stunt 1/2a model out of and it will be electric as well.  But the skyray works for now and is perfect for indoor demo like this.
