I will venture to say that those who attended the Sig Fun Fly last weekend were not disappointed. Weather was slightly breezy from time to time but beautiful overal. Bob Nelson took care of the feild preparation and setup, and it looked wonderful as it always did. It was advertised to bring food to BBQ but, due to the cancelation of the RC contest the week prior, there was plenty of food already at the field and no one went home hungry. Hazel Sig came out early in the day and was the life of the party as always; still as sharp as a pin and a blast to talk to. She even recounted a story about her first flight in an airplane, at age 3 with none other than Charles Lindbergh. Lots of flying, both actual flying and "bench flying" took place. Overall an awesome time was had by everyone. Huge thanks to Bob Nelson for putting it all together, and of course to Hazel for letting us kids come play in her back yard.
This trip was particularly meaningful for my dad and I. Due to a last minute cancelation, I got the opportunity to ride up there with him and the quintessential bag of popcorn, just as I had for so many years. This also marked the 30th anniversary of our first trip to the Sig contest, and we reminisced about past trips up there. We stayed in the same room at the Cozy Country Inn that we always did, and pretty much followed the same schedule by getting to the field Friday and flying through Sunday--though we left Sunday morning dude to high winds. For me, it couldn't have been any better and was the absolute highlight of my summer.
