FP .20 Fuel Consumtion
« on: May 20, 2017, 03:17:09 PM »
Its been a while since I have run an FP .20 and I'm currently building a Top Flite Peacemaker powered with the FP .20.
I'm building tanks today and don't know how big to make it.
How much fuel can I expect to burn for a seven minute pattern?

Brett?

Around 2 ounces. I would make the tank about 3 ounces to accommodate up to 20% nitro, or a "new" 25LA, if you are building the tank into the airplane.

From Model Airplane News, April 1960.
Top Flite kitted it a couple of years later, but used that funky-ass "Super Form" fuselage construction.

 Brett,

What prop, fuel, and launch RPM would you use with the FP.20 here?

APC 9-4, and 10% nitro 18-20% blend, and about 12500. Set engine to peaked out, then back off until there is a noticeable RPM drop, maybe 5-6 clicks. Engine/muffler should be BONE STOCK, no changes whatsoever, stock needle/spraybar, stock venturi, stock muffler including internal cone.

I had good luck running an FP .20 in a Still Stuka, set up with a APC 9x4 prop, Power Master 10% nitro 20% oil 50/50 castor-Klotz I think I launched at just under 12K
The Peacemaker and Still Stuka are pretty much the same size so I expect the same performance.

Another note, I flew the Stuka on .012 lines 59 foot long.

AFAIK you want the E-2030 muffler -- some FP20 engines came with one bearing a 3-digit part number, which doesn't have the magic.  I think.  Maybe.  If Brett says I'm right.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
