EZ Just Safety Thong
« on: April 16, 2016, 04:59:19 PM »
Does anyone have a picture of how to make an acceptable safety thong on a EZ Just?

Put  clip on the end of the lanyard and clip it to the loop on the end of the bottom cable?  Leave enough slack so that the lanyard will never interfere with your control. If worse comes to worse, the plane will dive, fast.

On one i drilled a hole through the bottom and ran the rope through the handle. Then I decided i don't like that because you can't buy them anymore. And structurally, that might not be wise.
Then i just slip knot the safety thong on the bottom. Stew's line clip idea on the down line cable sounds like an easy and effective method

You just slip knot the bottom cable. Para cord is good because it has some stretch to it. 10 cents a foot at homedepot.

Attaching the thong to the cable on the handle will certainly work and will keep the lines attached to the pilot even if the handle is released during flight, the idea is not too practical if attending a contest that follows the rules regarding the pull test.  According to the rules, the thong must be pull tested during the pull test procedure.  Applying the pull test to the thong if it is attached to one of the handle cables is not a practical thing to do.

I used EZ-Just for combat for years.
I used a thicker grade of rope because it doesn't tangle as easy.
I make a loop for the handle end and Hot Stuff it to the plastic after slipping it over the down leadout.  This stabilizes the thong and keeps it from annoying me.
Then I make tight-slipping noose for the wrist end.
With this setup I can hold the handle in my right hand (in flying position) and pull the noose tight with my left.  Otherwise you would need to let the handle dangle while you don the thong.

Yeah, before the pull test you just slip it up on the handle then put it back on the cable later so you don't have to feel it on your grip, that's why you use a slip knot.

"Just Say NO" to EZ-Just handles. They're old and they will likely fail on you and cost you an airplane and maybe an engine. Ask Howard. He lost his first ImpAct to an EZ-Just failure.  n1 Steve
