I coulda sworn I heard somebody say they wanted to see my Goldfish. Inklines are still drying!

Purpose-built for saber-dancing (and maybe winning the Walker Cup in its spare time)

Fox 35, of course (and now I suppose that you'll all remind me of all the derogatory things I've posted about that noble engine...

Holy Cow! Youse guys is worser sense of humor than me!

DeHill gets extra fish-points as he spotted the obvious blood-lines. Most people don't realize how closely Goldfish are related to Flounder (at least the Flying Flounder). This is a Flying Flounder what grewd a body with nose and tail and fins.

Finspan is about 18 or 19 inches.

An exercise in ink-lining to be sure.

So, it's a Fodiator not a Goldfish? Ummm, unless you look it up, Fodiator leads to all kinds of surmises as to what I was doing in building it...

On the ink lining and the plans, in all of my spare time, I plan on writing an article on ink-lining and one on the (now I don't know WHAT to call it!!) for Bob Hunt so he's got something to print in Stunt News.

Well, sorta. The first flight I had the tail too tall (the fin on the bottom of the fuselage was as tall as the one on top) so all it did was go round and round the circle. All the guys in our club came out to see the "big event" and when it wouldn't take off but did its Land Shark imitation they were all laughing hysterically. In fact I was afraid someone might bust a gut or something they were laughing so hard. They even drowned out the noise of the Fox engine!

So, I had to take it home and trim the bottom fin so it could get enough angle of attack to be able to take off. The bad part was that when it got into the air it would have to land again. I found out with that much drag it doesn't glide. At all.

So, when it would land it would crash and ended up bending the gear so much they tore the paper. So then I had to repair it.

And then the next time I took it out it would fire right up, we would launch it and it would just start to climb and the engine would die. So after a couple of crashes from maybe 5 or 6 feet right off the end of the runway, I decided I had a tank problem.

So, now it's hanging "on the pipe" in my basement wondering "where's the love?"

Wing needs more area , you need to work out the minimum area to lift the weight/size.

I wouldnt try flying ANYTHING with less than 150sq" and thats really pushing the friendship.

Nope. Wing needs less frontal area - meaning drag.

Just like the Flying Flounder. from whom it is descended (yes, really bad pun). once the engine quits it stops flying. And I mean "NOW!"

Nope to all the above!!!

The Devil is in the aspect ratio! What are the odds of ever seeing a sail plane with that sort of stubby .5 to one AR. ZEROOOOOW! (the ending W is for the wedge shaped hole it leaves in the Autumn leafs after touchdown following the -30 degree glide slope descent!)

Other than that it's a giant step forward in the CLPA History Book!

Had to dig this one out.... 10 in wide and 17 in long.... 3 in thick Cox Golden Bee. Built this 30 - 40 years ago..... Quick control inputs would cause a rolling motion.... With luck a snap roll was possible.... I don't even think there was alcohol involved.... Maybe I shoulda
