Brrodak Die Cut
« on: January 08, 2017, 05:25:26 PM »
Probably going to seem like a silly question.

But wanting to take advantage of the sale on a kit or 2 of Brodaks. FW-190 Semi Scale and the Accentor. Good prices IMO bu noticing they are die-cut.

Now Ive built kits that were diecut that weren't bad and Ive messed with some real doozies.

Curious on the quality of Brodaks Die-Cut. I may not get either one and just settle with Pat Kings Jr. Ringmaster lol.

looking for a low budget project more or less. Unless someone has a Profile kit and they wanna make a quick 50 ;)

I have three Brodak die-cut kits. They're cut clean, but one sheet of balsa for the ribs was super light. It showed signs of crushing. I'd go for it James. You won't be disappointed.

Hi James,

Ive got two Tanager kits (the profile version to the Accentor). One kit appears to be a older Brodak kit and its pieces are crushed very bad. Took a lot of sanding to clean up, and some filling. The second kit has much better pieces, it looks newer than the first one. I'd say go for it also.

Just finisher the Accentor kit and it's a nice kit, had no problems with the die cutting and the kit assembled very nice.

Did get a couple of flights on it before the snow came and very pleased with it and the LA 40 that powers it, needs some minor trimming but nothing to worry about as it flew quite well off the board.

I my self have had very few problems with Brodak kits.  Your Accentor looks great.  Those checks had to be time consuming?

The yellow and red checkerboard is Hobby King chinese monokote. 10 bucks for a BIG 16 foot roll and been using it for years and with no problems with wrinkles or coming loose.
It has huge shrinking properties and they make it in a bunch of different colors and square sizes

Honestly I don't know what to get really.

Build wise it may be more than I can handle at the moment. Plus I have a thing for profiles :)

That was the plan.

Nothing wrong. Heck even got the Brodak ARF Ringmaster done. Just looking for another build.

When John got into the kit business, he was all die cut (new, quality dies).
John used his old printing presses to roll over the balsa and press it into the dies...very cool!
He has come a LONG way!

Have fun!

If you haven't made your decision yet, and need some more info, I built a die-cut Brodak Olympic Mark VI about 10 years ago and I recall the quality of the die cutting was fine. Not the equal of laser cut, but that's not the issue here. The wing ribs are the main thing that needs to be cut cleanly and I recall no problem or issues with this one. And, if you are not satisfied with the quality, I am confident Brodak would replace it or allow a refund. They have excellent customer service. My Olympic had the wrong canopy somehow; one phone call to Brodak and the right one was in the mail to me immediately, no charge.

I got an Accentor kit recently and I cannot complain at all. The cutting is nice and clean. The wood is top notch and really light. Should build into a nice plane.
