With that exposed, upright motor, it gives it a real old-timey feel to her.  Beautiful.  and I am very appreciative that you took the time to put the Canadian flag first....just as it should be! H^^

... cannot tell the difference between good and great finish - but the proportions and lines of the design really appeal to me.

how much does it weigh?
where did the CG come out?
when are you going to fly it

Mark,

Not all that shabby for aerosol cans. Gotta love those aerosol cans.

Weighs the same as my Pathfinder, 55 oz and change. 53" is the span of the ARGO.

I plan on building an ARGO II, which I believe will be much lighter than this one. 5 or 6 ounces possibly.

The CG is right on the money.

Thanks for the reply.

Glenn,

No one noticed the engine in the nose isn't suppose to be there.  LL~

I pulled the Scorpion motor out and added beams plus a few other things to fit the OS LA .46.

I sold the motor and some collets.

I almost put the engine on it's side. I'm glad I kept it upright.

Scott Reise muffler. it comes polished.

When did you build this plane, Charles?

Dick,

I probably took it for granted that "everyone" knew where this plane came from and how it developed.

There are many new members that may not know my work or this particular plane or even know the plight of Avaiojet, for that matter.  LL~

Sooooooooooooo, Here's all or most of the links related to this plane. How it started, how it progressed, changes, more changes, and even more changes,  LL~, and now the finished product.

You may want to read Post #134 at the "New American" Thread. It's informative.

http://stunthanger.com/smf/cfc-graphics/new-american-build/

"IC to "E" Thread.

http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,34230.0.html

Might be another Thread or two here and there, related to the same plane.  LL~

Charles

P.S.

There will be an ARGO II.

Ya gotta just love those Disney movies.

Now that you mentioned it, I never really noticed that scoop as a smile. Great observation.  H^^

Be interesting, if the ARGO was a Disney character, what is he's smiling at?

Aerosol cans?? What kind of paint did you use?

Tom,

Yes, I replied to your comments on the "Ragtime." You must go take a look at what I said.  #^

Yes again, I used the All American as a guide in designing the New American. Interesting reasons for that.

Yes, hey! three yes's in a row.

Yes, I used only aerosol cans, Krylon, for the entire model except, the airbrushing of the silver metalic around the canopy outline.

Aerosol can for the clear coat also. 2K Spray Max. I keep forgetting who told me about two part clear being in an aerosol can. Otherwise I would give credit. Rusty Rattlecan gets the trophy for convincing me to use aerosol cans. Hats off to Rusty.  H^^

Yes, the finish is floorless. I'm kidding!  LL~

So there. Now you know all my secrets, which BTW, I've talked about with tons of Threads and a few models.  LL~

"There are no secrets!"

Tom,

Thanks for the kind reply

A technical question, as I did not quite follow the long threads about this:
How did you go about designing the airframe? Drew it from scratch, or did what I would do and picked an existing design with good proportions and adjusted shapes to please?
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

PerttiMe,

I taped the plans to the SR All American to my wall.

Changed a few of the moments and I had The "New American" drawn on paper before I drew it in CAD for laser cutting.

I must say, it was a really big hit.  LL~

I never liked it from the beginning and I made plenty of mistakes with it. Old heavy balsa from Balsa USA and the model was well overbuilt. Foolish 3/32 overdone wing sheeting and there's more but unnecessary to go into it.

IC to E, is where the changes came about. I actually gave those changes some thought.

You should view the Threads when you have a complete day with nothing to do.  LL~

I like the ARGO. I will build a second, ARGO II.

With improvements and contest grade wood.

Thanks for the reply.

Charles, Would you please link me to where you get the 2K Spray Max clear ?

Bad,

Gee, I don't normally share my secrets.  LL~ LL~ LL~

This product is 2K Spray Max. Sold by many retailers. Might want to shop for price.

Some auto body suppliers sell it also. Pay no shipping there.

Hey! Thanks for those kudos on the ARGO. I'm waiting on kudos from the other 4950 modelers that belong to Stunt Hanger.  LL~ LL~

Forgot to place the link.

Fred,

I just saw your reply to the ARGO.

Painted outside with aerosol cans, so the finish isn't perfect but I can live with it.

I wanted something really simple but different. I didn't want a scheme that looked like I copied it from some NASCAR or something I found on line.

The flag thing, that's been on my mind for years, decided to use it on this model.

I'll have international flags on the ARGO Series II also. I'm currently finishing the design and drawings of that model.

Thanks again for the kind reply.

Scott uses jeweler's rouge and cat fur to polish his mufflers. He has to alternate from one cat to another, because they have a better memory than you'd expect.  ;)  LL~ Steve

Charles,
What kind of tape do you use for masking ? That's been one of my biggest problems with trying to get a decent paint job...

Use 3 M fine line and a good quality masking paper tape.

"The Good, the Ugly and the "Bad.""

Bad,

Robert is right on the money. As always BTW.  BW@

I use all 3M or this other brand for the dark blue plastic tape.

Dark blue for corners and the 3M green for straight lines and large corners.

1/8" and 1/4" are always my friend. Yellow high stick for masking where needed.

Gotta make sure yout paint sticks.

I do little masking for graphics because I sell vinyl graphics. I don't enter contests, but you can place at the NATS with graphics provided by CFC Graphics. A proven fact!

The ARGO. All those black stripes are vinyl. Don't tell anyone.
