Ambroid glue being made again
« on: January 19, 2013, 05:36:42 PM »
After being off the market for some time, I am happy to announce that Ambroid glue is being made again. I just bought a 12 tube case of it in case it stops being made again. If your hobby shop doesn't stock it, just ask for it.

Good news, tho I didn't know Ambroid had ever stopped production. Are you an owner or employee of Ambroid? I just want to find out if this is sharing the good news or if it promotional for profit. If you are connected to Ambroid, maybe Robert can arrange a banner ad for you?  H^^ Steve

I do know that it was somewhat difficult to locate a while ago. Our local soon to be out of business hobby shop said that it wasn't available. They then informed me a few months ago that the large tubes would be made available once again. I love the stuff personally. I do however would like to see the viscosity improved upon. Nowadays it just runs all over the place. I just don't remember the material being so water like. I feel it hasn't lost it's adhesion properties but it certainly could be thicker. Ken

The 'old' Ambroid (good stuff!) was much thicker than what we've seen in recent years.  Word is, they added 'oil of something' to discourage 'glue sniffers'.  Definitely not the Ambroid of old, yet somewhat prized to us Nostalgia nuts.

I was unaware that it was off the market. I have seen new display packs of it in various hobby shops pretty continuously over the past 10 years. They seem to sell a lot of it.

You're actually seen real HOBBY SHOPS in the past 10 years?  Wow!  That's more than the rest of us can say.  Maybe I should move to Sunnyvale.  <=

Sheldon's, J&M Hobby House (maybe one of the very last classic hobby shops not that Tony and Addie's shut down), and it appears to turn over pretty quickly.

Smith Brothers in Reseda is not only a "good old" hobby shop, they even have Tony Naccarato there.

Nope not alone, only use I found for the stuff is temporally gluing a top block on. The new thinner stuff doesn't even work for that as well as it use to.

I always have, and still do, (even the new stuff) find it to work VERY well.
