On a whim, I took up making solid wood display models. The subjects are, of course, near and dear to me. We have a bunch of guys with whom we deployed with last year getting ready to move on to bigger and better things, so for a sort of "goodbye present" I've been cranking out these models. Fuselages are balsa block just to make the carving and compound curves easier to deal with. the flight surfaces are basswood.
This is production #1. Its kind of a special order. One of our Warrant Officers, one of the better ones, is leaving at the end of the month so I was asked to paint his pearl white and put big wheels on it to match his Cadillac Denali. I stole some wheels of a Hot Wheels car and finish is testors white/pearl clear coat. It make not be in most people's taste of vehicle or style on here, but it was still fun to make and he'll get a kick out of it for sure.
Got a few more to make, the rest will be in the traditional grey primer scheme and markings. Also going to build a Shadow as well as a 1918 Kettering Bug to put in the office.
