Firefox behavior on the menu bar

I use Firefox.  I've noticed the menu bar at the top of the page (starts with HOME on the left) seems to have variable size sweet spots.  The menu bar with LOGIN has the same behavior.  Sometimes it seems hard to find the right spot that will let the action happen.
