Wing Area for .061 Sheet Balsa Profile?

Dick Sarpolus designed some nice (all balsa) profiles for .049 to .061 engines ... Thinking along those lines, what are good numbers for wing area and target weight for similar profiles powered by a Norvel or AP Wasp .061 engine?

150 squares and 7-10 ounces makes a fast aerobatic model for that engine. That's the size I fly with my Big Mig .061s and Tee Dee .049s. I haven't flown a sheet winger in a long time, but those numbers are about like a Baby Flite Streak, my favorite for those engines. I am now building some sheet winged Stuntman 23s for similar engines.

Way too small! The Kwikie Skyfire is 250 sq.in. Wasp .061, APC 5.5x2.5 prop, 42' lines. It does a nice, clean pattern.

The Norvel .61s I use on the Phil Cartier's Core House Lil Hackers @ 5.1oz~ 6.4 oz and  235 to 275 sqIn  haul ass. My all up weight with fuel is 7.2 oz

As designed they are 235 Sq In and 5.0 oz...without engine

 I got a set of cores cut longer at close to 300 sq in but after trimming to the shape I wanted they are about 275 sq In

I think you should not be too concerned with wing area but rather keep what ever you find in the 5 to 9 oz range and the engines you listed will be good

Yeah, Larry, my rare patterns with the Streaks look a little like a panic attack, so yours is good advice for a shapely pattern flyer. And in a contest, the judges won't be needing 3 laps to write their scores. I should try that, it might improve my big plane patterns.
