We made a quick decision to make the speed contest this weekend. My cousin butters wants to fly and i only had plane. So i copied some parts of the existing plane, and changed what i needed to fit this engine. I made plans as i went along just in case i like it.

It's a profi .049.
The plane i flew in 1/2a proto there last time had a cox td. I learned a lot about speed flying in one weekend! So I believe i know what bladder I'm using. Hopefully I'll get it all correct on the first flight...

nice job!
The Profi combat engine is pretty fast and very light. They do want to be wound up rpm wise so don't be afraid to tach OVER 30k on the ground.

I'm only piloting this thing. I'm gonna make Joey Mathison tune it! Lol. I'm good with the cox engines, but this hopefully will get me to another level. I got a lot to learn, but I'm focusing on 1/2a proto as my main event!

Just a little before 0400. We're heading out now to compete in sport jet and 1/2A proto! It's a little less than a 4 hour drive from Vegas to Whittier narrows park

Well... It flys very well... Nice and straight. That counts for something, right?

Just under 62 mph. In April, my td powered model hit like 57. So at least it's an improvement. This plane is cool enough I'll clean up the tail on the plans and try again. Maybe a different engine too.

lots of engines available. I have seen that Profi like yours turn around 90 but the rpms must be very high aka small prop.
Proto is a tough event, the Picco that Galbreath sells is a very good engine and reasonable in price (for the performance)
Say Hi to Joey, make sure he doesn't tear out anymore pylons......

Thanks Ken! I'll take you up on that one day soon. My biggest problem is my inexperience in the pylon. Shuffling my feet, they say i walk backwards (lol) and i don't put my hand in the pylon right. It sticks out too far. So my lines were 6" too long, then I'm giving up like a foot from my bad hand placement... Uggghhh. There's a lot to learn. It's a helluva lot harder than just spinning in circles!

i got to fly my 1/2a proto that scott newkirk built for the fist time in roseburg this year, had never flown one before went 76 mph the first flight then sencond flight it went 82mph and i'm using a profi,can't wait to get it out and fly it more

hey Dane.
Do not be discouraged. Flying 2 line in the pylon is more difficult than m-line. It will take practice to let the airplane be in position so that you are not waddling around it. Now that you know.....watch the good guys like Joey fly... Make a practice thingy ( pole in the ground) at your local grass field and use a sport plane to get your technique down. Get up to a reasonable turns per second to emulate the 1/2A, by using shorter lines. You'll feel better for the effort.

Ken, thanks for the encouragement. We are fortunate, our club had concrete poured and made a real nice center circle. Joey had the wherewithal to install a pylon lug in the concrete. Joey is gonna tap the pipes and I'll install the bearings and make a pylon in our machine shop at work.

scott told me it has gone as fast as 94mph and don mckays profi has gone 92mph so i know it can be done, i"ll be building a new proto for next year i have 2 other engine's to use,will be building a f2d and b proto for year as well

Mike Hazel make carbon fiber and glass props that work great for 1/2a proto, they are about 9.00 bucks apiece, jerry rocca uses his glass prop and a picco, but does a lot of extra work on the prop

The funny thing is, i didn't realize i was this far out of sorts. I actually thought the flight was descent, just felt slow.

we got Don over 100 with his Profi. It was the later one with milder timing. He used a "blue" combat prop ....all Eastern bloc combat props seem to have a secret color code) It blew up but was an odd engine. It ran like the .061 in that it just kept getting faster during the run. I have not seen one do this before, but it did...then blew up. Don (like Joey) ain't no little boy, he had his hands full at 100 and that pylon. The engine was a Booker special, none of us have come close to that with a Profi.
