Bearcat at Huntersville
« on: October 08, 2015, 05:59:26 PM »
I got to finally fly the new Pat Johnston Bearcat at the Huntersville field with Don Jenkins today. Plane flew fine but seemed to turn to quick for me. A heaver muffler will go on it for next flight. Some calm weather and some quite windy and it did fine in both. Plane weights 49-50 ounces so it is very light. The line pull surprised me for such a light plane. It flies straight ahead not aimed out at all.

 Looks great!

If I remember correctly, Brodak kit with an LA.46?

Stunning .  ;D With the big fuse. theres a bit of windage or airflow there compared to most . The Fuse gets to be a bigger % of the aerodynamic forces than usual . Hence the GB's knife edge capeability , even though its ROUND . Maybe Al will do a F2B GB ?  :! VD~

have you considered narrowing your handle spacing as opposed to altering the CG,, Assuming you have it balanced on the design CG?

Nice finished weight,, Pat would be proud of it for sure!
What kind of lap times are you turning?
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

With only two flights on it I can't answer many questions. I am not going to tighten handle any more than it is. I narrower it between flights. I tend to fly all my planes with a much farther back CG than most people. It may be to far back. Controls are very slow setup. Speed was fast as motor increased RPM at takeoff both flight. Very odd for a ST/46. The plane would fly easily with my Rustler/40 but it a lighter motor. I will check the CG today.
It is very flyable as is if I did nothing.
