K&B .28 control line engines on the way
« on: October 07, 2015, 08:17:20 AM »
After many emails and phone calls the K&B .28 control line engines are here. Based on the .28 K&B Sportster engine but with a K&B installed C/L venturie and a tongue muffler. Weight, just under 10 oz with muffler. Price is a bit more then I was hoping. Introductory price is $89.95. I should have the engine and ordering info on my website by Friday.  The .40 engine is next

Is this the one with the chrome plated piston running in a plain aluminum bore?

If you do a little bit every day it will get done, or you can do it tomorrow.

I have one of the K&B 28's and a 65 and they are very good motors.
They DO LIKE OIL in their fuel.  More castor than syn.  I run mine with 22 to 25% oil
depending on the season. (cool weather low oil, hot weather more oil)

both are in RC models and have had more than 15 gal. of fuel thru them.

I do have a 28 that i converted over to CL for a build over the next couple months when
I amhome recuperating from hip replacement surgery in about a week and a half.

They also like a bit larger prop that what would be used on say an OS of equal size. They are torquers.

you really can not go wrong with these little gems.

Are these CL versions timed the same as the RC version?

What's the difference between RC and CL timing?

There is no difference  between either application in the Sportster line. None of them are particularly high rev engines and the timing is therefore mild. They did whether used in R/C or C/L behave more like a 4 cycle and were partial to using larger props than similar sized engines. The 28 does particularly well on 11 inch props and they are not adverse to having a little extra pitch if you need it. I generally used a TT 11/4.5 prop with excellent results. When propped accordingly they are really fuel efficient. The only downside is that they, like the Fox 35, require a controlled break in as they do not perform well till they get a reasonable amount of running on them.

This is great info, I've been playing with one, it has a 281 venturi and a OS 15 needle, I'm using a a power point 10/4 and it always wants to run flat out, so maybe a smaller venturi and a 11/4?
thanks
