Baby Ringmaster
« on: October 05, 2015, 08:18:36 PM »
Everyone,
With the Ringmaster Fly a thon scheduled for this past weekend, I thought it would be cool to finish a Baby Ringmaster for the event.  Glued the wing to the fuse on Saturday and managed to get in 10 flights on Sunday with it.  This was my second airplane when I was younger.  Learned 2 things with it right away.  Number one is that you do not need as much up on a hand launch as an epoxy laiden Beginner's Ringmaster.  Number two was that my dad had pretty good reflexes as he was clear of the area as I complete my first loop passing right through where he stood immediately after launch.

Original Sterling decal split on the paper as I was trying to mount it.  Guess I will have to get one from Brodak to complete the look.  May have come out a little heavy at 5.5 ozs using all original wood but seems to fly okay.  Plastic on the wings and Brodak dope on the fuse and tail.  Golden Bee was originally on my dad's Baby Flite Streak and probably had not been run for about 30 years or so, but after unseating the reed it seemed to spin up okay.  Good project.

Thanks for sharing a picture of your outstanding work!

Searching to find my new place in this hobby!

John,
Send me your snail mail address to: patdk@aol.com and I'll mail you a Baby Ringmaster decal. I do sell laser cut kits of the Baby Ringmaster. They are as the originals, that is, for radial mount engines with 21" wingspan and 95 square inches of wing area.
Nice looking baby!

Pat's Junior Ringmaster is the best I've flown. I think it has a better airfoil.

Thanks to all for the nice comments and to Pat for the offer on the Baby Ringmaster decal.  Nice to get back to a simple project from time to time.  Even better to relive some history.  My dad has not been around for a little over 5 years but his memory is still there and I could not help to think about him when Jay Williams let my airplane go for its first flight.  I was easier on Jay than my dad.  It was good also to hear his engine run again after so many years.  Will be a good combo for years to come.
