Sure and depending on the complexity and pre shape of the plane slip $500 in a envelope along with it.

How about filling us in on just what you're up to here? Are these all for customers or...? Personal restorations maybe? Is that Formula S the one that was hanging down there at Schafer's Hobby?

These are customer jobs. The FS is a copy  just as the Max Bee.

Sure and depending on the complexity and pre shape of the plane slip $500 in a envelope along with it.

When I was painting 64" span pattern ships for customers, back in the late 80's and early 90's, I was getting 500.00 back then.

But that was with auto paint and auto clears and no open bays, all sheeted wings.

Depending on how the model was prepared, most of them being poorly prepared, I would sometimes charge even more money.

Most of these guys were competitors, who didn't have the ability to do a first clast paint job themselves, so they didn't mind the cost at all. Most had really good incomes.

The interesting thing is, they all took credit themselves for my work. Expected.

This photo was my own pattern ship which I scratch built and painted in the 80's.

This is a good example of the kind of painting I did for that 500.00. Not complicated, but colorful and thought out.

This model is only 55" in span.

Robert, for a modeler with your professional painting abilities and talent, I believe you can charge more.

Added better photos.

Aviojet, let me 1st say all your work on that Pattern ship is awesome... My H^^ off to you on it and some of those other builds you have shown us look very promising also. I would like to see some more of your art work posted when they're finished.

I didn't really want to cut into Bob's post because so many frown on builders for hire (excluding T.M.) but yes I too once did models for hire.

A good build could bring anywhere from 500 - 1000 and even more depending on the job.

At one time I also did R/C racing boats. Those guys wanted showroom like finishes and didn't care what it cost to get it. Ah some good times there. y1

This first one was three painted colors plus the red graphics and cost the guy just over 300 in materials and the graphics and did not include the work on the paint job. Each color of this paint job was baked on and had to be done with-in 24 hours due to the paint's window.

This one below was a customized job costing this guy $1000.00 for the hull, customizing the hull and then the candy apple finish.

So my point for chiming in here is that I too know what Aviojet and Sparky go thru with your work for others and that's why I no longer do that.

Either way... Great jobs guys, keep it up.
Thank you and God Bless
Walter
