Why is that, Frank? I'm 67 (nearly 68...) and have switched to electric flight, along with many of my flying buddies who are as old or older than I am. We have secured a wonderful flying field right in the middle of a small NJ town. The field is surrounded by private homes. We often fly there starting at 7AM, and have not had one complaint in more than three years of flying at that venue. In fact, the field is directly adjacent to the main road through the town, and many have stopped to watch us fly. Many have also commented on the noise, or lack thereof, and how enjoyable it is to watch our planes fly without the noise.
Many older visitors to our field who used to fly models have become re-interested, and I'm certain we'll get a few returnees to the hobby/sport.
If your argument (reason?) for not switching from glow to electric is one of, "I like the noise and I like the smell," then there is nothing that I can suggest that will help. I, and my buddies, like to fly model airplanes; we don't give a darn if the power source is glow, electric, steam, nuclear, or two chipmunks on a turntable spinning the prop; if it keeps us our field and provides the same or better performance for the plane, we are a happy crew. Really, is this hobby/sport about the type of power source, or is it about having fun flying our favorite plane? Let's not get to the point where we "throw the baby out with the glow fuel."

PS: Since switching to electric power I have found several fields near my home to fly on that would never have been usable if I tried to fly there with glow power. It's not that I'm so much in love with electric, it's that I'm in love with flying. B.H.
