Motor Mount - wood grain direction
« on: August 26, 2015, 01:08:06 PM »
Guys,
Has anyone noticed a difference in vibration when running the motor mount wood grain vertical or horizontal? I never gave it much thought and just used the direction that fit the nose shape (sometimes the slight warp was just the curve I needed to shape the nose). Seems that running it vertical (when looking at the end) would have slightly more resistance to up and down movement. Any thoughts?

Best,     DennisT

Dennis,

I guess that with "vertical" you don't mean vertical as in good shear webs? Sounds to me like quarter cut. That is what I prefer, as bearers cut like that tend to be more straight, and their compression resistance is slightly better.
But for me the compression resistance is not a big issue, I use good hard al pads under engine and dural blind nuts that go all the way through the bearer.
