Why say "no BOM"?  Only Nats age-group classes require BOM.

It means no appearance point penalty.
Bring and fly what you want.

People ask me.

That makes some sense.  Prospective contestants may wonder if they are eligible to enter.  "No BOM" says bring and fly what you want, but it certainly does not mean that there are no appearance points.

I see "No BOM" a lot in contest announcements from the East.  Brett thinks it's because of some sort of conspiracy, but I suspect that folks there just haven't given the issue much attention.  Sorry to corrupt your announcement with controversy, Jim, but subsequent posts will bump it up, and that's a virtue.

Just a bump as a reminder that the Middlesex Stunt contest is this Sunday, Aug 2nd.  Don't forget it's at a new location.  See 1st post for details.

Competition starts at 10:00 AM for both electric and nitro.  Practice flying for electric starts at 9:00 and nitro at 10:00 (Park rules).  A practice circle will be available all day.  Food and drink will also be available and we will have some pop-up tents available for sitting in the shade.  Looking to be a good day.

Announcing "No BOM" also puts any terrorists who are also weak readers on notice that they should find some other venue for their explosives.  Alas, it doesn't work with those who can read.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Jim,
Excellent job, I thought it was a well run contest and definitely worth the trip and you couldn't have asked for better weather day then today. I would also like to thank the judges, it was no easy to stand out there all day in the hot sun and watch people fly (one of the judges told me that "this is what they are paying me to do"!!!). Plus my two sons had ball flying in their first contest.
Thanks putting together a great contest.

Thanks, Joe.  I was very pleased how everything work out and all the help that I received.  A special thanks goes out to the judges, Bob Hunt, Keith Ferguson, Sleepy Dawson and Jim Damerell.  As you said, it was not an easy task with the sun beating down on you all day.  BTW, You flew very well and took home some hardware.  The results are posted in the Event results thread.

Wow! What an enjoyable day and what a great venue! I thought I'd have to judge about 10 flights and we'd be done. To my pleasant surprise, there were a bunch of contestants and we didn't finish until late in the afternoon. Just like the old days at contests on the East Coast.

Kudos to Jim Vigani, Ed Barry, Ryan Barry and all those who helped out. The host R/C club supplied the manpower and they were very friendly to us "stringliners." I hope that they will have the contest again next year at this venue. This is one you should not miss!

Later - Bob Hunt

P.S. Sarah Huff pointed out to me that it was determined that one of the first four settlers in America was named Robert Hunt. Wonder if he was an ancestor...  :o  B,H.

I'm not sure but his boat was reported to be foam core with a 1/16th balsa hull.

Sorry I couldn't be there, heat wave got me.

The flying site was beautiful. Short grass, flat circles and straight air. A charging station was provided along with a practice circle.

I look forward to going next year.

Jim, Thumbs up and a big round of applause for dreaming this up and making it happen so well. With some luck, next year will be as much fun! I won't say better 'cause other than my early departure, it couldn't have been better.  ;D     TS

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback on the event.  With all the responses I've had, I'm working on securing the site for next year.  Suggestions were that we add profile or classic events.  We have the room.

As I mentioned before,  thanks to everyone who pitched in.
