2015 NATS Coverage
« on: June 26, 2015, 08:47:34 AM »
It's that time once again to begin the ramp up to the premier event in aeromodeling.  Part of that is this digital record of words and deeds that make up the Nats.  Sadly this year we'll miss our dear friend and mentor Bob Gieske . If possible I'm sure he will be wherever the flying is going on.
Recently we've had the toasted Nats, the frozen Nats and if the weather guessers are to be heard,  maybe the drowned Nats.  T-storms Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.  Better bring a snorkel!
Yes here is the place for the teasers, wheezers, and geezers to have their say.  Please remember this will be a part the permanent record so keep it upbeat.  The betting window has been opened.
As per my custom I will travel Thursday prior and will be on the turf Friday.

Let the game begin...

Any chance you have an unlimited data plan with a 4g network?

UStream live videos would be nice to see. 😉

Paul I do have unlimited data and LTE so even better.  However I've never done the live video.  I'll try to educate myself some on it and we'll see.  Would prefer to do that on something other than my 5S.

Hey Dave
The 5s would be better than nothing. I thought the UStream worked great. The cameraman learned a few things.

Give me a call if you need help getting it setup. Phone is listed in the PAMPA directory. Or shoot me a PM.

It's a lot easer than flying the pattern. 😁

Hopefully not a wet NATS like we had not too many years ago.   When I got there they were pulling vehicles out of the combat area.  I think there was a picture of someone in a row boat on the AMA field.  Not the lake in front of headquarters.

Just my two cents worth, I don't have the time to watch all the videos and far prefer the manner in which Dave did last year's nats.  I can set down, read quickly and see what's happening, and then be back in the shop in a few minutes.
Also, no disrespect to Paul and his herculean effort at Brodaks, but I found no connection to seeing those reports because they had no personal information in them about the participants.  I saw folks I know, but just "ships passing in the night" type of things.  Maybe both types of reports could happen, but that's a lot of work, either way.
Again, no disrespect intended, just my personal preferences.

Will,  to update where we are right now I don't think the program will change much.  I've talked some with both Paul and Chris and done some research myself about streaming video.  Given the lack of time and trying to make up a bunch of practice time I'm not going to try to take on a new hobby right now.  The way Paul did this is worth a try but as some add-on to the thread as time permits.  I'll get the app and be prepared for the 5S.  Chris and I may collaborate on some additional video.  To do this as  I would like to requires a fair amount of equipment,  I already have the HD cam and MacBook Pro, wifi hotspot etc. but would still need at least $500 more stuff. Them I'm tied to a spot with the stuff and need another vehicle to haul it.  I'd most rather have Chris or anyone else upload whatever video they gather to the thread.  That way I can get around and simply do commentary.  As long as I  am competing myself it's going to be pretty hard to do much more than I do already.  Chris and I will be talking more and see.

Dave, I was amazed that you had, or rather, took the time to do what you did last year.  You are to be commended for that and there should be some kind of award for such dedication.  Chris is also going to be competing, but he's such a high energy dude that he can multi-task in his sleep.  (Ask him about his nats with the "fab-four" his first year there!)  He's first class, as I am sure Paul is, too.  You are included in that category as well.
Thanks for helping me be there this year.

Current open stunt entry is 39, with 14 Advanced. 39 is a pretty big number for pre-entries, which are frequently only half. I would guess that there will be 15-20 more in Open and 10 more in ADV, so that's a lot of people.

   Stunt IS NOT dying!

From the dearth of pre-Nats banter here, you wouldn't think anybody's going.   Maybe people are put off by the drying up of the vortex generator supply.  I'll go, but I might not take my good airplane.
