Dreadnought 40
« on: May 24, 2015, 08:06:11 AM »
How big is the wing on a Dreadnought 40? Can it be stretched to make it 575 sq. in. How would you do that increase all dimensions by X%?

Thanks,
MM

Taken off Randy Smith's Aeroproducts Website:

690 Sq. in. and 60 in. wing span
for all 51 thru 65 motors
or all 40 thru 65 pipe engines.

Say Mike, that's the full sized Dreadnaught numbers. The Dreadnaught 40 is Vector 40 sized. My recommendation for MM: Your Steve Buso "Jaguar" kit. Great looking, right size and proven design.  8)

Thanks for the suggestion but the Jaguar doesn't look anything like the Dreadnought. Does anyone make a Dreadnought 40 kit?

Thanks,
MM

Didn't say it did. Suggested it because it meets your other requirments and is a real looker. That's one reason why the model on the PAMPA logo is a Steve Buso design. No one has ever kitted the Dreadnaught 40 but it would not be difficult to modify a Vector 40 kit to resemble it, not scaled up though.  8)

Sorry, I misunderstood your question.  I did not know there was a .40 Dreadnaught.  I am prejudiced about the Jaguar however.  One of the prettiest designs ever.  That kit sold better than any kit I ever produced.
Thanks Pete.

Here is Tempest 40 built from Randy's Plans,ST/46 powered. It is very little different than the Dreadnought 40. Both are much like the Vector kit but not the Vector ARF. y1

Since it was mentioned...if one doesn't like the looks of a plane it's easy to kit-bash a design into one that looks better to your eye. This is a Legacy 40 in disguise.  8)

Thanks Bill, styling cues borrowed from Randy Smith's "Olympian" with a little of Lou Wolgast's "Fury" thrown in for good measure. Great flying plane, this one has an LA-46, next one will have a PA40 Merlin Lite. 8)
