I don't walk in a circle when I'm flying, I kind of just pivot around, shuffling my feet. It's kinda hard on the shoes. I haven't really gotten the hang of walking in a circle, the way so many other flyers do. That would probably decrease the wear on the soles of the shoes, but my flying suffers when I start walking around.

Anyone have a recommendation for a type of shoe that will wear better on our concrete circles? The new shoes wouldn't have to be 'All Purpose' use, I could just wear them for flying. I have other shoes, too. Oh, and yes...a helmet. thanks for thinking that.

Maybe some of you have stumbled across (ha ha) this same issue. I'm just asking if you know of something that works well, and can let me know what you have found out... or if it is even an issue for anyone else. Thanks all!

I wear special conductive shoes, so that I'm always electrically grounded. One can't be too careful while flying electric planes!

Too many cacti here in Tucson to consider bare feet!!! Besides, in the summer the pavement will fry an egg instantly!!!

And here I was expecting a picture of a black widow mounted to a coroplast cut out of a pair of wingtips... dang, this thread is utterly disappointing!

Oh... and the field surface determines the shoes for me. Grabby cross trainer/hiking shoes are terrible on crawling grasses, if back peddling on a dead air day on grass, grabby shoes would have me landing on my butt.

Running/walking shoes are smoother bottomed, seem the best all around for me, or maybe even deck shoes, but I haven't tried deck shoes in a long while.

It all "depends".

You can always practice circle walk in your living room...

On concrete a pair of leather sole shoes are pretty nice, but walking the grass is slippery and leather is little padding on pavement.

I wear a work sole boot, or a cross trainer sneaker (new balance) on grass. Either is a good combination on pavement too. These are not "lug" sole boots, but they do have some chunk about the tread.

Oh Man something else to think about. Do I wear shorts, cut offs , jeans or my white pants that I have left over from my ice cream selling days. Where do I put my left hand when flying. Should I wear a straight billed hat or curved one. I got enough static about my straw hat with the flowers on the brim. O yea back to the shoes. I don't know if I walk in a circle or turn in one place. I will have someone watch next time I fly. But thinking back ,at one nats I watched Kenny Stevens son Chris fly in flip flops. I will not be trying that. I'll stick to my running shoes as when the lines get loose I'll have a head start. Bill

I found some shoes. I have the white shirt; now I need to get some white pants. At least then, I can look like one of the professional stunt guys! Bow tie, so it doesn't get caught in the prop? Or, is that going to far? Of course, the Good Humor company probably has the rights to that look.

Proper attire is always a requirement for sanctioned events. The 'Good Humor Company' recommends the following outfit and that the Bow Tie be neat and tidy.

Last time I was in Arkansas I got the impression that no one there owned any shoes...

Same for the Missouri Orzarks just North of there.

Randy, in the Ozarks,which is southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas, shoes were for worn for school and Church services. Nothing like a fresh cow patty oozing up between the toes.

I got shoes!...They were out there in the circle, but not on my feet. I had "in-soles" in them and I couldn't feel the terrain of the grass circle, I kept stumbling around. So I kicked them off before I launched; flew a good pattern; finished third. Not bad for no shoes.

Paul modestly left out his being on the Nike factory team. Our club meeting last night had to be adjourned because it degenerated into a discussion of stunt footwork. Perhaps Nike could fly Paul up as a guest lecturer at our June meeting.

Yeah, I actually recognized the airplane! The clown shoes are cool also...I'd probably fall and bust my (you know what) in them though!

Just thought maybe you loaned the paint to him! Somewhat reminiscent of a past impact with checkers etc!
