Those who came out had a
great day at Piston Popper field yesterday afternoon, sunny and warm with just barely a hint of breeze.
Without a doubt the biggest highlight of the day was watching Rachel Sandberg put up flight after flight with her "Prowler". With it she has now pretty much completed the progression from her .15 size "Challenger" that she flew all last season. The "Prowler" is powered with an FP.35 and is flying on 60' lines. She flew this plane for the first time right at the very end of last season and has started right up with it again this year. She was doing
very well with it yesterday, shooting better takeoffs and landings than most of the rest of us out there!
One landing in particular caught all of our attention, it was her second or third of the day. Just as the engine quit she must have fed in some down or something and had the plane coming down at a much steeper than desired angle. For a second or two it looked like it was gonna be a rough one. All of a sudden at about 3 or 4 feet off the ground she leveled and flared it perfectly, took about half a lap to set it up, and then absolutely
greased the landing! It was
PERFECT! Actually, I only saw one bounced landing all day from her, with just one bounce that was caused by the field more than anything.
This was all pretty awesome stuff to see for a little girl who won't be turning 8 years old until this May 4th! From the looks of things, us "Old Timers" better be looking out!
