Privateer gets a new home
« on: March 02, 2015, 06:55:02 AM »
I just came to own this Privateer with a brand new OS.40. Bought it from Keith Sandberg. Keith and Wayne Willy went to Indiana (I think) to buy several planes from a member on here. Think it was Leester.
It is built straight and lightweight. I may add a bit more red trim to it and something on the rudder.
Love the looks of this plane. Seems right at home in my Nut-Hut.

It is truly wonderful to see a great plane like that get a new home with a guy that will take care of it and enjoy it.  I think too many get damaged and tossed or go to garage sales without being enjoyed.... :-\ :-\

Great score Shug

Paul, Yes it was one of Allens. Shug, I think the red was Miss Ashley (Brodak) . It was built from a John Lowry short kit .

Shug:

Nice looking plane.  I suggest that the first thing you do before flying it is to replace that prop.  Try a Pro-Zinger or find yourself a Rev-Up.  Standard Zingers are not too hot for stunt work.  Just a suggestion.

I scratch built one last winter and put an OS .46LA in the nose. APC 11.5 x 4.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.

I guess some of us have had better luck with Zingers.  I agree, not the best prop, but with a little work, I have found them to do pretty well at times.  I guess it is the luck of the draw.  I have had some BY & O that performed poorly.

The Thunder Tiger Cyclone 11 x 4.5 is very good and rather cheap.

Different plane/engine combos like different props and experimentation is the only way to find the "sweet spot" on any particular model. A prop that works great on one engine in one plane may not work well on the very same engine in a different plane. I've had a lot of luck with the regular Zingers on more than a few airplanes. I have also had planes that didn't care for them. Don't knock it 'til you try it.
