Wish I was closer, Big bro!
Kind of a follow on to your other thread;
I'm lucky that my brother-in-law likes Stunt and since Bob G's death we've decided to go to VSC and fly our new ships, his is a replica of his first Stunter, a Super Ringmaster with a McCoy 40 and my Gieseke Nobler with an L&J Super Zoot Fox. We've got two practice ships and two flying fields so we're covered.
Wish you were here.
Chris...
P.S. I've started to draw the Shark.:)

Hi Little Brother!

I wish you were closer, too!  We could burn a lot of fuel or drain a lot of batteries!  Best of luck at VSC, I would love to see pictures of y'alls models!

You draw that Shark, I will build it! ;D

I would love to fly with all you guys. But, the way the economy is going and my limited funds I cannot afford to make those long trips anymore. I miss VSC the most of all. Guys from everywhere in the country show up and smile for a whole week. With gas prices down it does help, but food and motel bills are still way out of reach for me. That, and my dear wifes allergies that seem to affect her all summer. I traveled on all my working time and now I just will not go anywhere without her. That is the great thing about this forum. We can all get together here and tell each other lies. LOL. Do you remember the time--------- Oh yeah! You said " here, hold my beer and watch this". Figure "9's are really not that hard. Love each and every one of you.

Thanks, Chris, Paul, Milt, Doc and Jim!  I really appreciate the kind thoughts.  My oldest son cannot really do much flying right now, and there is really no one else with in about 100 miles.

I have to have a knee replaced, but until then I cannot get down to start an engine in a stooge.  If i get down on one knee, I can't get back up with out something to hang on to.  Therefore it would definitely not be safe!  It's hard enough to find an empty ball field to fly but I always do.  Want to fly and can't! LOL!!

Thanks!

Bill...since I was diagnosed with GBS in 1998, I have been unable to squat or kneel (well...I can kneel ONCE, but if I try twice I must roll and use my hands ,,,,,,it's ugly).
I know what you mean by not being able to fly from a stooge,
I had thought that maybe I would try the "sleeve" type like combateers use...you know, stick the outboard wing into the sleeve, start the engine, go to the handle and give a TUG......but I think there are too many things to go wrong.

I am a member of two RC clubs (both with CL circles) and have one or two guys at each site that are capable of assisting.....

The MCRC bunch is usually active on Sundays.....and Dale Josephson lives close, so I'm lucky.....

Where do you fly? You might look at an RC site with room for a circle....they might help...

Best

It does make it hard. I do not have any trouble flying off of a stooge, but both of the fields that are close to home are now no more. I drive 26 miles to the R/C field to fly and they did put in a nice control line circle when they built the field. It is a great place to fly with no trees for turbulance, and a couple of shelters. But I sure miss being able to have a place close to home where I could go for a short time to check out and engine or change the trim on my plane without having to drive so far. The one really nice field I had was only a 1/2 mile from my house. It is now a wheat field. Guess I just got spoiled.

Bill,

Just a suggestion, but you could try Big Brothers.

Bet there's an agency in your area or close?

Find the right kid and I'll bet he'll be flying circles around you in no time.

A possibility.

Bill,

Glad to hear you are doing better and  back to modeling more. One thing you might want to consider, I have been flying electric  over the past couple months, one big advantage for me has been the elimination of the stooge or a flying partner,

Most evenings over the last  month,  I would come home from work, load my plane in the car and run to the field less than 1 mile away ,  to get in at least 5 flights  in less than 1 hour.  Since I am flying at a ball park, my wife usually goes and gets her daily 2. Mile walk in on adjacent walking track

It is always better to fly with someone , but if you you keep a cell phone handy in case of a accident or medical issue ,  , walk down to pick up the handle on the left side of the lines , set your startup delay for plenty of extra time ,   be extra safe , it will get you back to flying again .

Or better yet come out and fly with us at Huntersville

If it wasn't 101 miles door to door to the flying field, I would be there. :)  It's too bad I don't live where I used to in Charlotte......

Y'all need to move to Tucson, where we* fly year 'round.  Plenty of company, here.

Southwestern Regionals this weekend.  Four (count 'em: FOUR) former National Open winners in attendance: Klapinski, Trostle, Whitely and Buck....plus Carrier aces Burt Brokaw and Eric David Conley, among others.

Next up: VSC-27, March 17-21.  Hope to see you here.

(* That's the editorial 'we', since I no longer fly....just hang out and babble-on about this stuff.)

Hi Bill,
Mike said it, I'll second it.  Move to Tucson.  Lots of guys here to fly with, Me included.  Flying about every day of the week year around, unless of course it's raining, which it does less of than just about anyplace else except the Arabian Desert.

I have taken several different routes from Shawnee KS to and from Tuscon and it averages out to about 1250 miles each way.   Give or take a few miles for rest room breaks..

1999 miles from my house to VSC. Maybe I should drive it with gas so [cheap] #^ I am thinking about it. My old Mustang has been to Canada and south Florida several times but never west of the St Louis. Maybe it is time. There is a Dallas trip later this spring. Picture is after the last almost totaled adventure.

Eddy,
Hope to see you in Dallas.

But... this thread has become a tour guide to VSC, which is one of my favorite places, and lost the original topic.

To Tom and Bill
I am the closest to Bill and he and I have talked about flying at the Huntersville field but that is a long trip for Bill.
Tom , Rebecca and I will make a trip to Dallas sometime before summer. When is there a contest so I can tie that into the trip. I can fit one plane in the old Mustang.
