<sigh>...I miss the old days...before RC, foam and electrics ruined this once glorious hobby.

I miss the old days to Mike. I think there are few people our age that don't miss the old days. Matter a fact I think about them more and more and are we not in our old days? My biggest problem is my old age not the great modeling stuff that has come along over the years. I'll be down your way for the SWR and will still consider what I'm doing there one of the greatest things that ever came into my life from the very first years that I can remember. I've used a lot of the newer things that have come along and have enjoyed my model airplanes more and more, cherishing every day. So, as my good friend Ted Kraver says "Cheers" and I'll see you at the contest.

There were probably 75 cars lining up for Indy's 33 starting spots, too. Now check the turn out.
Things change.

Interesting numbers but Carrier really peaked in the late 60s and early 70's. Anybody have the carrier numbers for the 70 and 72 NAS Glenview NATS. Than came the great crash.
Thanks

OK guys, in your opinion what caused the crash of Carrier entries at the Nats?

It is not just Carrier ! It is all of control line. It is like buggy whips and sealing wax, old stuff. People have other interests these days. Unless you did control line in their youth most people are unaware it even exists.
I here" You guys still do that" from a lot of spectators that have some control like background. Many moved on to RC.
Places to fly are another problem too. Set up and start to fly at a park or school yard around here and see how long it takes for the cops to show up and shut you down.
Just progress and a different time I guess. Fly on and enjoy it while you still can

Our club, which is also in decline, trains 5-6 new kids in CL every year through a 4H club. Yep they are not just into animals and farming anymore. Over the last ten years not one kid has stuck with it. There is just to many other things to attract their interest I guess.
We always get a lot of interest at demos when we pull out the trainer, but it is like an amusement ride, fun, but no cigar.

Mike is  right, what is the average age of a CLer , I will bet it is close to 70.

Reliable BB engines, NiCad batteries and proportional RC equipment. It made a whole lot of competitive CL guys go to RC.

Wayne, Few notes on the Carrier entries in 1957. , I believe that was Rick first Nat's flying Jr, with a McCoy 60. There was only One Carrier Class up to I believe 1962. In 1963 they broke out Class I and II. In 1968 Profile Carrier was added for Juniors Only and in 1972 they add Profile for all age Groups. The late sixty's early 70 was the high point for Carrier in the Midwest. Both the Class I and II Open record were held for many year in the Midwest with Wallick, Herron in Class II and Wilman, my father and Rick in Class I.  The 1976 Nat I believe had the most Carrier entries ever.  Very few of us who

Rick, thanks for the info. I enjoyed flying carrier those years. Surely not like that today but a big part of it is that controline in general is on it's death bed. Where was the 76 NATS at. Was that Wilmington or Wright Pat, I was at Wilmington but have little memory of that one. I thought 72 was the biggest with three decks. That be , I enjoyed flying at contests with you and others from Detroit area. Were always great intense contests. Thanks for the info again.

Dayton Wright Patterson, Rick was CD for Carrier and along with father (Marion) ran the event with three circles. Rob
