OS 25FP or 20FP muffler differance 842 vs2030
« on: December 21, 2014, 08:16:54 AM »
Guys,
I have an OS 25FP that has a muffler model # 842. Is this very different from the 2030 muffler? Will the 842 work similar to the 2030 with the BB set up?

I'm not sure the .25 will work for the BBTU. The BBTU is specifically for the FP 20 as far as I know. And the correct muffler is an integral part of the setup.

Hello Dennis,
I am afraid the answer is no, you need the E2O3O to get the full BB routine. It works on the 2O but I have not had much luck with the 25. It is also claimed that you need the ABC 2O, but I have had it working on SOME of the steel 2Os, but not all, something I have not been able to figure out.

Regards,

Andrew.

Andrew,

I know that I'm nitpicking but as far as I know OS never made an abc FP anything. The old iron/steel was first and then aluminum with nickel coating was final offering. They did do some abc engines in the FSR series but they were only the more performance oriented models.

What everyone else said.  The E2030 muffler acts sorta kinda like a tuned pipe, but it doesn't have enough authority to slow the FP25 down -- or something like that.

The BBTU is specifically a bone-stock FP20 with an E2030 muffler and a 9-4 APC prop.

I think if you're crazy enough you can run an FP25 on a pipe with good results.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Yep, Da Dirt's last season or two, he used the .25FP with a header and aluminum tuned pipe from MACS products. I have the pipe data filed someplace, and I believe he used an APC 10-3 prop. He flew this powertrain on scaled down Impacts in the 450-500 square inch range, called "Wimpact 450" and "Wimpact 500", oddly enough. You should be able to do a search for those names and find all the data. If that doesn't work, I would expect DD would be willing and able to give you specifics...if you're willing to follow the instructions exactly.

If you're apprehensive of using a tuned pipe...don't be. It's not that difficult to setup, and once that's done, it is no different than any muffler. Another potential setup would be a MACS Muffler, which has been used with great results on .40FP, Tower .40, and .46LA.  H^^ Steve

I think what's happening is that so many of us, and maybe a manufacturer or two, colloquially call it ABC when strictly it's ABN.

Exactly so. I've long had a problem with Thunder Tiger for that. Their boxes have said "ABC" for at least a decade, but are not. So, they were listed as ABC in catalogs, etc. They should have popped for some stickers to put over the ABC that said "ABN". Otherwise, it's deceptive advertising; I don't care how good they are, or how decently ABN works. It's not what it says it is, so it's lies, and it chaps my hide.  y1 Steve
