Turkey Shoot results
« on: November 23, 2014, 02:45:17 PM »
Despite the Rain three pilots were brave enough to fly in our Turkey Shoot CL contest today in St Louis, MO. The rain was coming down but not real hard. Everyone had a great time and Congrats to Jason Pearson to ran a really fun CL contest. This was the 5th contest that the Lafayette Esquadrille CL club has run this year. Our next contest will be February when it's really cold (but you gotta fly!) for CL stunt, Perky speed and Fox 35 speed

http://lafayetteesquadrillecl.wordpress.com/lafayette-esquadrille-cl/control-line-contest-st-louis/

The idea is simple, take one .35 powered model and fly it in 4 different events

Fly as fast as you can
Fly as slow as you can
Balloon Bust, pop as many balloons as you can in 6 minutes
Combat with a streamer

these are the results from todays Contest and pictures of the winners, more pictures to follow

We used to fly it out here in the WAM organization. Tons of fun and LOTS of guys showed up to fly it. The Flite Streaks dominated!

But Jason knows this.

Fast flight and then a slow flight with streamers attached, anything slow the model down

Jason then flew the Balloon bust, hitting the stick does not count, you have to break the balloon

John Moll took 1st place, but had the worst damage to the model during combat. the prize was a real turkey that could be cooked in a few days.

Jason took 2nd place and Ed took third place, the score in all four events determine the overall winner. You might do well in the balloon pop but not do well in Combat. So you have to do well in all events (speed, balloon pop, combat).

I had my alarm set to get up and at least go to the park to help out. I woke up with a splitting headache, took some ibuprofen, and laid back down "for a few minutes" before I went to get ready to go. Next thing I knew it was 11:45! Still didn't feel all that great, so just decided to skip it. I guess I'm just getting old! Glad that there was some sort of turn out. I didn't really have an "expendable" airplane anyway. Maybe next year!!!???
   Great pictures considering the weather.

I do remember flying Balloon Bust back in the mid 70's in WAM when I was stationed up at Castle AFB just north of Merced, CA.
I belonged to the Merced club back then and flew mostly speed with Frank Hunt and the bunch.
Had a great time and fond memories of it.

Good ol' Mom and Pop Coad.
