I remember there was an article long ago about a speed plane with the inboard wing in the normal position and the outboard wing about 3" back. Anyone know the theory behind this?

I don't fly speed and don't know the theory, but if you look at the plans and pictures, the inboard wing is straight and the out board is swept back. They go faster also.
