Brodak 1/2A stunt?
« on: August 22, 2014, 09:18:02 AM »
I have a Norvel 061 AMD looking for a ride.  What is the best Brodak 1/2A stunt ship for this size engine.  Possible the 1/2A Stork Kit, or the 1/2A Pathfinder Kit?

My very best 1/2A flyer is a Big Mig .061 powered Baby Flite Streak. I would call it "sport" stunt, because it's so snappy you'd need to tame it for precision stunt. The Streak was the first 1/2A plane I ever flew that didn't feel like a toy on the end of the lines. You can stand still and fly out a whole tank or bladder, ripping off some pretty good tricks if you wish. I bet the pathfinder would do the job too, but I haven't flown one myself. On a calm day I like to fly the Streak on 40 or 45' with an MA 5.5x3. Or if I'm only in a small area, I put on an APC 6x2 and fly on 35', still fast.

It looks like next winter building project will be a 1/2A Pathfinder Kit.  Roger V sent me a picture (attached) of his Pathfinder and I am sold..

Oh yeah, that's sharp. One of those would look great in my fleet too. Flite Streak, move over.

John, can you enlighten us on the AMD version. When I contacted NV, they couldn't give me the differences. The 5 hole ported cylinder has always been standard as the Big Mig, the AME was the larger 3 hole ported cylinder. My suspicion tells me that the AMD has the 3 ported cylinders suggesting higher combat like performance. I would be curious to know actually and if that's the case, I would also suspect the venturi is larger than the Big Mig. If so, how does this engine run on suction? Have you already run this engine? The Pathfinder is a terrific flying airplane. It really flies like the big stuff. Good luck with it. Ken

The best model that I've seen and even bought a kit of is the Pegasus by Pat King. 34 inch W/S and 235 square inches. Side mounted engine so you know it will run well. It's good looking easy to build and takes a Jim Lee 1/2 A spinner to give it that really classy finished look. I'll enclose a link but regrettably if your not a member of the Brotherhood of the Ring it probably wont work.

Don't forget to take a look at Eric Rule's offerings. The Pinto, Hunter and Sky Sport all do killer patterns. rsmdistribution.com

Looks like a nice plane, John. Is that a tricycle gear?

Not sure - all I have is the picture.   I suspect it is one wheel.
