OLDER style motors
« on: August 17, 2014, 03:57:54 PM »
ok folks here ya go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I have recently come in to 3 60 motors..............

OS H60 goldhead (Front intake style and ringed)
K&B 61
Fox 60 (NOT the 2,3 or 4 Schnurle series, but the side port original series)

The K&B and FOX are brandy new, the OS is a used one with new bearings I put in it and the motor is in great condition.)

I am wonding what props would be good to use for these motors.................
plan on using at least one for sport flying using 10% fuel.

thanks in advance guys.

Carl I'll try to respond.  A 12-6 anything would be a good place to start on most stunt/ sport airplanes with these engines.  From there you can play with pitch to get more or less thrust at a given needle setting.  If not sure about that then set by ear to get a solid four cycle with an occasional crack into two cycle.  Your CAN go up in diameter but that demands more from the engine meaning a likely solid two cycle with more heat and wear on the motor without really gaining much thrust.  Hope this proves a workable starting point for you.

Carl    I believe the reason for no replys is no one here is using those motors for stunt flying. They are heavy and need a very big plane to carry the weight. I did use a K&B 61 many yeas ago in a PatternMaster that was given to me. It weighted about 80+ ounces and I gave it to Bill Whitson in Clearwater fla. who was a lot stronger than me and he flew it for several years. I used a 13x6 prop. Big heavy motors = big plane.

Thanks ever so much Dave and Ed.

I am not planning on competing, just relaxing sport flying.

I know the R0Jett and PA motors are lighter but, I am just as happy
to use these beasts for fun.
heck, someone has to ya know.  LOL

Carl these should work fine for you.  Might be a little heavier but just shorten the nose 1/2"-3/4".  The K&B I saw a few years ago on an airplane that came to a contest in Topeka.  It was mounted upright and so caught my eye.  It flew very competitively and I was impressed enough to think about getting one.  I know there were many Fox .60s so not sure what you have.  I have an  Eagle that should work something like a Discovery Retro Shark motor.  The Eagle was designed specifically as an FAI no nitro engine.  I understand Charlie Reeves has had good stunt-luck with it but forgot to ask him about it while there last weekend.  The OS I have no knowledge of.  Good luck and have fun with them.

Dave;
The Fox I got is the Eagle 1.  the matt gray case/ side port/ twin ring version.
It is heavy by todays standards thats for sure.
yeah, the models that these would need to be used for todays PA flying would
have to be about the size of my old Blazer when using the Fox or OS for that matter.  LOL
I am looking forward to putting one of these old girls up in the air and having some fun.

you folks have been very helpfull and I really apreciate everything that you have been able to
give me.   H^^

any ways, now to go out in the back yard and make some noise (motor running ) and stir up the
squirels in the trees.  VD~
