new Grinder
« on: August 10, 2014, 01:53:03 PM »
I am building new electric Grinder . Got the kit from Ed at Action Hobbies and as usual everything fit perfect. I will try to keep you posted on its construction. I now have 1/2 of the wing framed and going for the second Half. This project may take a while because of my failing eyesight but It will get done. I also will do pictures along the way. It will be powered with a 2826-10 AXI motor on a four cell battery and KR timer. and Zwt ESC. I am shooting for a weight right around 48 or 50 ounces. I now do most of my building by feel but intend to take my  time and do nice yellow and orange dope finish. am shooting for the finished to be ready for test flying in October. The wing gear out of my old grinder  will be used again and maybe a few other parts but when it turned to dust there wasn't much left. I am hoping the new one will last a lot longer. I am expecting the planking from National Balsa to be early next week. HB~> HB~> HB~> S?P f~

Did I read this right, you are losing your eyesight?   You better shape up and take care of yourself.

Na just have Dry eye and sometimes they get real bad  and some days I can see very well and it usually changes during the day when my eyes get tired. They usually get better in the summer when a pretty girl walks by!

Hi Leo,

I'm really anxious to see your new Grinder, and your old self again at Delta Park.  ;D

Finally got my Cataracts taken care of, and with a new plastic lens in each eye - my vision is back to 20/20 for the first time in thirty odd years.

Just like my old school engines, my eyes need extra lube. I'll also be packing eye drops to the field, so let me know any time you need some.

I don't expect any improvement in my consistently lousy flying, but now I can see well enough to repair the damage.

No electric airplanes for me, as I can hardly hear my unmuffled glow and diesel engines now.

Golden age my arse!

Bill

Not a flyer (age related), but still love the hobby!

Ya old age sucks but never give up. I am going kicking and screaming all the way. I am still riding bicycle but that is even getting harder but will ride until the old body says screw this. I am stubern German with a little rebel English in me.

Is that as stubborn as a Dutch-Irish mixed with French-Cherokee?    That is just my maternal grandparents.    I think Dads side came from Germany.

Leo I feel your pain Brother!  It takes me a loooong time to build. I've had Lasik, cataract w/lense replacement, but my real problem is glaucoma+dry eyes. I do have a very good Ophthalmologist/glaucoma specialist, who told me that the Lasik, RK surgeries etc, often sever a nerve in the eye that controls the tear reflex resulting in VERY high percentage of the dry eye side effect. These problems were partly responsible for my decision to end my flying career, but I will NEVER miss hotels and airports!  I will continue to build CL airplanes as long as I can tell the difference in CA and eye drops! I, too would like to see some photos of your build.
Blessings,
Steve
