5 MM spinner
« on: July 24, 2014, 07:57:08 PM »
What was the FAI rule community thinking? After looking at Howard's 5 MM Spinner radius at the NATS It the had essence of BOZO the clown. Is there anyone who thinks it would make a hogans damn if a plane moving 55 MPH hit you with a prop spinning 10K and a BOZO spinner would hurt you any less than one with a needle nose spinner. What are people thinking?

Sorry Howard but that spinniner would not be my first choice but I know you need it.

I like it.  If you think that looks like a clown nose you should have seen the last one.  There was a conspiracy at the Golden State Stunt Champs to paint it red.

I like it.

If you like it that's all that matters but still what were they thinking?

As I said once before. "What difference does it make?" (in the immortal words of Hillary Clinton)...if you're hit in the head (or elsewhere) by a gently-rounded or needle-nosed spinner travelling at 55-60 mph?

Whoever dreamed this one up is living in a fantasy world.

Unfortunately when a rule labeled "safety" gets on the books it's absolutely impossible to get rid of it.  Scale has been saddled with a similar safety nut (well named!) rule since before most of us were born.  It will still be there when the event dies.

Howard's exceeds the 5mm radius requirement by more than a little.

The Randy Smith's "classic" spinner is a 5mm radius.
