NWR (Memorial Day, presuming they get a site for next year) or Golden State (October) would be great places to come to one of our contests. That would be awesome.

The stunt & combat contest we held on Memorial day in Salem was a fine substitute for the Regionals.  We only needed more guys from California and southern Oregon to really make the contest.

Hopefully the Regionals Committee find a good venue and have the full contest.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Those things are awesome. I haven't seen one quite that big run, but I did see a moderately large (maybe 10 feet long) one run, and it was amazing. Also, all the places you have to stick your hands in it when you are starting and adjusting it are pretty remarkable, too. No OSHA back then, clearly.

While not as great as being there, it was really nice to be able to keep up on the NATS action this past week here on Stunthangar. Thanks to everyone who posted here and helped to keep us "in the loop". I also checked out "Nats News" on the AMA site daily. There was some great photos and information there too.

Maybe I've missed it somewhere but one thing I've been wondering now that all the dust has settled is why hasn't anyone noted or proclaimed yet that an IC powered model WON IT ALL! (PE**)

 Congratulations Dave! H^^

From my perspective (having watched all 15 of the top 5 final flights) the reason that no one has said that "IC won it all" is that it wasn't about IC vs Electric. It was about who consistently flew the best patterns. As Brett said above, Dave was relentless in his discipline and made very few mistakes. Certainly, his equipment was working very well, his plane tracked like it was on rails, but it was more a battle of pilots than it was equipment.
At least that is the way I saw it.

Despite what everyone wants to believe, there's not a holy war over this topic. Everyone is evaluating what might help them and acting accordingly. Not a big deal, any more than it was with 4-strokes. It is quite clear that the best electric systems are fully competitive, but not tremendously better than the best IC systems to the point that you have to have electric to compete.

That's where he always excels. I can beat him on individual flights when I am at my very best, which is how I manage to be competitive with him in local contests, or something like Top 20 day.  But in these things he just grinds you down.

Great idea, Doug.  Come on down to Golden State and I'll even dust off the old TP so you can whup on me.  It would be a great pleasure to have you fly with us.

I keep trying to figure out a way to swing a trip out there but it never quite works out...  One of these years we will make it happen.
