Good plane size for an FP 35

A friend has an FP 35 that he's going to build a plane for.  He asked me what a good plane size for the engine would be, because I had told him that it'll put out more power than a Fox 35.

I told him to put it on a later Fox 35-sized plane (i.e., Nobler, Tutor -- I was thinking 500 to 550 squares).

Does that sound about right?

I used my .35FP on a Banshee years ago. Have had it on the Super Clown lately. Pulls it real good.
I'm sure there are a bunch more planes for it.

The FP 35 will fly anything that a FP40 will fly and then some.  I've personally seen FP 35s turning 12 in props and flying airplanes in the 600+ sq in range with little effort.
The FP35 seem to be a different animal.  The owner of "The other Forum" used to set these things up to specifically turn 12+ in. props and produce Gobs of power.

Kind of a magic combination of bore, stroke and port timing!

In other words It'll probably fly just about whatever you want it to within reason of 630  sq in and a max of about 55 oz. providing it's in good condition with the right venturi size etc.

Tim, I have an fp35 on a franI don't have a taccher. Twister and it's more than enough power. Ringmaster size plane may be too small. I tried an extra head gasket but fuel consumption went way up. I use a 10/4 prop, 10/6 caused run away. Depending on the size and weight of the plane he builds it's a lot of trial and error with these engines.

p.s. I use an os stock needle valve and the smaller venturi with the stock muffler. Tried a tongue muffler and there was no difference except for the weight savings. Tank is a 4 oz. uniflow with muffler pres.

I initially used on in my Bill Simons Shoestring. It's, what, 600 square inches? plenty of power and it flew well with that engine.

I have a handed down glue laden 37.8 ounce Skyray with fixed flaps and a big stab as my stunt trainer, and my FP35 flies it like a dream running wet with a TF 10x4 prop. I know you might not want that on a new lightweight Ray, but mine might give you an idea of the minimum weight and wing size for the engine. Any lighter and it would be over powered. And yes, it's originally designed for a Fox 35.

Tex would still talk to me after I suggested he build an ARF.  At least, I'm pretty sure he'd know I was pulling his leg.

My flying partner has an FP35 on his Predator and one on his BiSlob. The BiSlob is too heavy for the 35 now, he is going to an LA 40 then maybe an LA 46.

I have mine in a ruffy but any plane with 550 to 575 square inch wing would be fine.
