Howard just called the TUT Technical Support Line with either a bug report, a request for clarification on the operating instructions, or an inquiry about the effects of the settings on the perception of the pilot.  Neither of us were sure at the end of the call which it was.

He mentioned that he came in first in his circle, but that it was only by one point because some guy named Derek gained lots of points (15?) from the 1st round to the 2nd.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

According to NatsNews, Derek flew a Nakke.

That is correct, I flew dad's Nakke.

Yes, I went up a little slow on my first flight. Second flight was much better except for the squares which could have been compared to something a mid level Intermediate could have done. I will try to knock Howard out of that top spot today...

On a side note; Howard is flying very well with his new world champs plane.  :)

Sparky,  you are going to get irritated at me, but what I seen that video, I hope your next two flights are mucho better.   The take off was way to quick in my opinion and using the background for reference your maneuvers were all over the place.   There is more I could add but, it would probably just get you up set at me.  I was not there and do not know the weather conditions and I know on the tarmac there is turbulence.   Anyway I hope you make the top twenty.   Also the video man need to be further back even tho it looked like he was where a person would stand to judge a flight.   Maybe in person the flight was better than the video shows.  Who knows, now you can tar and feather me.

Les I'm here!  I will try to input some here as I can.  Been talking less and flying more-enough to qualify here today.  It kind of came down to that but I'm sure a few others will pick up the slack.  Stay tuned!

A couple more.

The only scoreboard picture I took was of my circle and I feel kinda bad about posting only mine. I will wait to see if anyone had all four circles...

Derek is being modest, the reason he doesn't want to post it is because he got a 596.67.

Yes DOC I said I made some mistakes but the rule is 15 foot. They would rather you roll more. That's not what I am aggravated at. Congrats to all who made the cut. My flight on the other circle was much better but still not a good enough score. I wound up 8th. Joe Gilbert thought it was a 540 but as always I got a 522. Never enough. I wish Joe was judging.

I didn't see anything to hang your head about...Just being able to post those type of scores at a National Championship, is a feat in itself. After looking at all of the scores; it looks as if Barry and Fitzgerald are showing the way, with Howard close by. Sure wish I was there.

Here's the spreadsheet of scores for Open, Advanced, and Expert, based on the photos above.

If someone has Joe Bowman's Open scores for Thursday, let me know, and I'll plug them into the Excel attachment.

It's here: http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,35949.0.html.

Howard, Dave, Paul, Brett and some guy from across the mountains (Hi Doug) made the cut.  Not in that order.

Curt, let me help you out.
This thread is for the tourists. I greatly appreciate Sparkys videos and all the great photos from Derek and some others but the real time action can be found at the 2014 Nats Action Coverage thread from Dave Trible.
Get up early tomorrow and follow Dave throughout his posting of the finals------live, as it's happening.
Dave Trible is to stunt what Jim Nance and Nick Faldo are to golf. What the Boggity Boggity Boggity guy is to NASCAR. What John Madden was to the NFL. What Dick Vit------------just check it out in the morning.

Myself, I don't get up that early.   LL~ LL~  But, I'm glad we have Dave Trible to keep us updated and glad he took time to concentrate on making the top twenty.   He has worked a long time to be competitive in stunt.  I still remember the young lad flying I think a Guillows Trainer in balloon burst many years ago with his Dad launching.    He has come a long way.   Lets hope top five day is perfect stunt weather.

I had the privilege of judging this year, both appearance and flight. As a panel we really worked hard on the groupings for scores, even came to a couple points if mild contention over a couple models, but in the end, we agreed unanimously on our decisions are hard as it got. When you get to 18, 19 and 20 point models it really comes down the finest details where then might be some minor, and I mean nearly invisible, flaws in the paint of prep or fits. It pretty incredibly how it comes down to that.

I enjoyed flight judging, but then I always do. I won't say anymore about that but it was a very good experience. Everyone should judge, I guarantee it would make you a better pilot.

Can you imagine how many gallons of fuel these guys have burned in the past 60 years. (This is not a question!)

I agree Les, if only we could get you back to Muncie. As a judge would be great but just to see you there would be good enough. Take care!

Also, Congrats to Dave for another Nats win and to the rest of the top five for a good showing. I will get you guys next year.

I have traveled to Muncie for the last 10 Years and every year it seems to get cooler and cooler. I guess it must be Global warming but this year I wore sweaters and jackets. I guess as Global warming takes over I will need to bring long johns.
