Flushing Meadow Park Contest
« on: May 25, 2014, 07:27:37 PM »
Weather perfect ... turnout excellent ... I am a beat from a long day but it went extremely well.  I can see some ways to make it better from an efficiency perspective but that is the engineer in me coming out. Photo of Al Takatch flying his Smoothie from his chair. He came in 2nd in Beginner stunt.  First contest he ever flew in.  He learned control line right handed.  When he had to fly from a wheel chair he taught himself to fly left handed and control the chair with his right ... no small feat.

I have a couple pictures but the file size is too large on my iPad. I will put them on my laptop and downsize them tomorrow night when we get home.

It was a real shootout in expert, first-third was separated by 2 points! I was first, Will DeMauro was second 1.5 points back and Mike Chiodo was .5 points behind Will. Any one of us could have won today. What I thought was interesting to observe was the top three used very different power plants. Will used an electric, Mike ran an LA 46 and I used a RO-Jett 61 on a pipe.

That's pretty cool. That's a great example proving that on any given day it's got a lot more to do with who's holding the handle that the type of power being used.

 Did Sina fly?

A special thanks to our judges;
Sina Goudarzi
Ron Heckler
Andy Lee
Jim Borelli
They sat out in the hot sun for hours and when I couldn't get a runner out to them to retrieve score sheets they walked them in. I have new respect for their unselfish contribution.  Scoring isn't like watching flights.  It requires intense attention and no distraction.

Such a wonderful day for a Contest and practice flying, the guys above made the work from start to finish.
Look forward to the next Contest!!!
Thanks to Sina and Ron for judging my flight and critiquing what I did incorrectly and advise how to fix it next time
I'm learning!

I took some video throughout the day but I couldn't see the viewer due to a bright sunny day so forgive any errors.
Here it is on YouTube

That was a lotta patterns I just watched! Some real good stunt folk there. Loved watching the last guy on the video when the camera was zoomed in on him. Real relaxed on the handle and loved that he checks his time. Interesting to see what the arm/hand/handle do when you can't see the plane.
I love Flushing Meadow. Our circus train used to park there when we played Madison Square Garden. Had our own LIRR car))))
Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it.
