Flushing Meadow Park
« on: April 12, 2014, 03:24:51 PM »
Good day today ... morning was beautiful 60* and 4 mph winds.  That all changed at 2 pm.   Winds picked up to 18 to 20 mph and wind chilled the air. Son Joe's recently completed Accentor flew very well but was a bit fast at 5.0 second lap times.

I brought out the electric Forerunner and Joe brought his original Custom Models Forerunner with an LA46 ... that was really too fast at 4.7 second laps.  Going to reprop for a more reasonable speed.

Good weekend at FMP - well almost.  It was a little windy Saturday. Will DeMauro flew his multi owner Genesis.  I am not sure just who built it but I know Will recovered it.  He was using it as a test bed for different electric setups.

Jose Modesto tested an electric setup with his beater.  Nicer than what most of us fly.  Sina Goudarzi is pitting for him in the photo.

Joe finished his Moon UHP G Nobler.  Flies very well but it is light in the high winds. Will need some trimming.

Alex and Steven with the Ringmaster S1A that their dad built when he was 12.  They both flew this one.  The nice part about electric is the timer is set for 1 minute and they get a quick fun flight with a take off and a landing.

If you have smart phone, shoot video the stop the video when in play back and take a screen shot.  H^^

Thanks for sharing. Glad you got to fly. Wind has been bad here. Good shot of the kids.

Love looking at other peoples planes.   Thanks for the pictures and the names.   Tell Sina old DOC Holliday says hi and wants to know if he still has the Nobler that Pappy Meriwether built and I sold to him.

Hey Neal .... Mr. President.  We  thought you would be flying on Saturday when the wind went to 20 mph.   Your kind of flying.  Did you fly the G Nobler?

No I had the Blue and White Nobler. I just converted my FD Profile Nobler to Electric . Only had 1 flight ,needs some fine tuning( time & power it was too fast)I will try to get out Monday.I had the grass cut but the weeds grow real fast . And put up a new wind sock and spoke to Louis about the destruction of our safety sign's. :) :) :)

I flew along with son Joe and grandson Joe on Sunday.  Windy but not stupid windy. 12 to 14 out of the North.  It gusted a bit down and back up which was a little challenging but still a couple of good flights.  Odd that the park was empty of picnickers as well as control line flyers.

It was Father's Day.   Daughter was going to take me to my favorite BBQ place, but it was closed.   Have found another one that was just as good.   It was not fancy with big screen TVs.   But the BBQ was good.

Beautiful Saturday for control line.  Wind at 5 mph or less variable.  Not a cloud in the sky. Temperature at 80*. Odd that only 2 showed to fly.  Tom Tucker flew his original stunter built with a Banshee wing.

I flew and trimmed a Gotcha Streak that I got from John Papasca. Flew a little touchy like a Flite Streak.  A little work with the bell crank and a prop change tamed down and now it flies well.  Will be a good stunt trainer for the grand kids.

That Gotcha Streak looks a lot better then mine.  I see you don't have to worry about wiping left over fuel off of it.   I had to add a trim tab to mine as it was flying out board high in up right and low on inverted.  Have several patterns on it.   Mine likes to fly a little fast.

This G Streak does seems to fly best with 5.1 lap time on 60' lines. Turns better outsides then insides but is a fun plane to fly.  This morning at FMP we experienced the Queens 10K race and couldn't get onto the park until 0945.  Only Will DeMauro, Sina Goudarzi and me at the field today.   Beautiful day with wind at 3 mph variable to none.  Temp in high 70-s ... Went home and flew at the local school field with son and grandson in the afternoon.

Nice day today at FMP.  Wind 5 - 8 mph from the west.  The usual suspects participating.  Nine altogether this morning.  Jose Modesto along with Will and Kevin DeMauro getting ready for the Nats.  Will is flying his newly completed Voltron.  Impressive machine.

That's a GREAT looking model, awesome colors and a very clean (not overdone) looking scheme. Good luck in Muncie Will! y1

Thank you, but I have to give credit to Sina for the paint scheme and lettering. He worked very hard at coming up with graphics that would fit this design. Thank you Sina!!!

Yep, I could tell is was a Sina design, there are some of his "trademark" details incorporated.  You're still the one that had to get it applied to the model though Will, looks like you pulled it off perfectly. IMO, this is a great example that shows simpler can be better. y1

It's looking like the front row at the NATS might get a little crowded this year! ;D

I flew first flight on the Super Forerunner today.  58" wing from a "U Can Do"  RC ARF.  Scaled up fuselage and empennage from Forerunner 60.  Power is Cobra 3515 -14.  Made 4 flights on it and it flies well.  Pulls hard but at 80 oz that is predictable.  A lot of wing on this plane.   I had to prop it up to 13 x 6.5 from 12 x 6 to get vertical pull from it.  Needs some more work but solid flying plane.  Tom Farmer knew what he was doing when he designed the original.  My son Joe was  flying his Forerunner that was built from the Custom Models kit I bought for his 16th birthday.  He is completing the entire pattern in only his second season flying stunt using this plane.

Saturday we had excellent conditions at the park.  Overcast sky with winds 2-4 mph.  12 flyers turned out to fly.  There was just about continuous flying in 3 circles.   I had a Nicopress swage fail on the handle.  Balled up the Super Forerunner but very repairable.  Post mortem on the handle reveals that I used the wrong swaging tool.  I picked up the wrong one when I did the cable and it didn't fully compress the sleeve.   Not smart.  The grandsons are progressing nicely. 3 flew Saturday with no mishaps.

Good flying conditions early this morning at FMP.  Temperature was 72* wind 2-3 from WSW.  Wind picked up after 11 and got a bit turbulent but still not terrible. We had a raccoon invade the park today. Once in awhile you see them around New York City just not often.  Area east of the park is a large cemetery and to the south there is overgrown park land.

Nothing like a captive audience.  Me, I got by with just Church with dinner after service for Pastors birthday and a KC T-Bones baseball game.   They lost 6-5 in 12th inning.  The grandkids got an autograph also from a team player.

Good day flying Sunday.   Son Joe and grandson Joe turned to fly early.  Would have like to go to CB meet but young Joe had soccer game at 1100. Photo of him flying his Flite Streak ... when I looked at the photo it looked he was engaged in a combat match with a Delta Airlines jet.
