Does anyone know Owen Vick?
« on: December 12, 2013, 02:30:18 PM »
I came across a letter from Duke Fox to Owen, dated January of 1966.  It is typed but appears to have been signed by Duke.  If anyone knows Owen or used to fly with him and would like the letter let me know.

I knew him but haven't heard from him in over 20 years. He used to fly with us in Sacramento in the late 80's and early 90's. As he was probably in his 70's  back then he may have passed on. I don't have an interest in obtaining the letter but it does not  surprise me that he corresponded with Duke Fox as he was an active competitor in the 50's and early 60's. I remember that he had an OTS Curtis Shrike that we planned to fly but never did.

As posted on the other forum, the last contact I had with Owen he was living in Orangevale, CA.  I sent him a Class D Hell Razor kit then, and lost contact after that.

Has it really been 20 years? Wow!
Owen used to be at every Saramento Barnstormer meetings and contests. I never once saw him fly a model but he was quite the talker/storyteller.
Pete is correct that Owen, if alive, would be well into his 90's by now.

I was wondering if maybe the AMA Museum might be interested in displaying the letter? Couldn't hurt to shoot a scan of it and email it to them.  :! Steve

The letter was in with some engine instructions in a box of old engines and junk.  The instructions are for a Fox 78 if anyone wants them.  The gentleman who sold the stuff moved up from California and is a swap meet person.  He doesn't remember exactly where any of his stuff came from.

Well, if Owens stuff has hit the swap meet circuit, it's a pretty good bet he's not around any more.

I know this is an old thread but I bumped into a family member of Owen Vick. Owen did indeed pass away about 7 years ago. Most of his stuff is still stashed away an I'll get an exclusive showing soon.

Owen attended the VSC in Tucson at least once.  Nice guy!  As noted above, I once sent him a 'D' Hell Razor kit at his request.  Wonder if it's still in his 'stash'?

I have the .78 and the box I bought a few years ago, and I thought it had the instructions with Duke's signature on them...but I just looked and they have disappeared. I wouldn't mind having the instructions to put back in the box with the engine. H^^
