U.S. FAI team trials coverage......
« on: August 23, 2013, 06:42:20 PM »
ARE YOU READY?!!!!
The team selection trials for the 2014 World Championship in Poland are Labor Day weekend in Muncie.
This is the hardest, most exhausting and challenging contest but also the most rewarding.  It moves at a much faster pace than the Nats due to shorter flight times and a compressed format.  Here you place a $100.00 bet on your skills and go for it.
I and I'm sure others will try to report the happenings.  I plan to arrive about dinner hour Thursday and will get to the Lpad.  Friday is practice and the pilots meeting.  The shoot out begins Saturday.  Good Luck and safe travel to us all!!!!

Best of luck to all the guys/gals trying for the team.   I say gals as I know of one young lady that could make the Junior team.

So we keep her fingers, because looks like F2B circle is last without girls ... even in speed circle (and it is for strong hands) this year ECh bronze junior medailist was young Claudia from Italy :- )))

Perhaps she could arrange a "Go Daddy.Com" sponsorship and become rich and famous!

I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

hhihihihihi : ))) :D
They had a little star in Italy, i see celebration in all Italy - news papers, issue ; )) magazines ; ))) tv ; ))) that's great motivation for young people! She is only 17 and probably very hard for her knowing that it's the only one female!
However pushing forwards a young people is great idea. All in control line world need that I think not only in F2B class. So really hope to see young girls and boys in World Champ next year :)
Greetings to all in USA : ) team, see you soon guys : ))

I will be at the DMAA contest on Sunday morning. I am going just to see the Expert\Open cats rock. Hopefully, I will get to meet Bob Gieske for the first time in my life. And maybe even Al Rabe, (I like seeing the "stars" LOL). I will have to leave about 6:00am to get there by 9:00am. I am really hoping the Moon brothers will be there because, I am sick and tired of being the only tall skinny guy.

That's too bad but, I am going to go anyway and check out the Dallas scene. Were slowly getting it together down here in Austin. If I do get to eventually meet the Texas "big guns", I will be somewhat unique in that, I would have met the "stars" on the East Coast, West Coast, and the Midwest.

On site now.  In attendance today: Bill Werwage,  Bob McDonald,  Bob Hunt,  Frank McMillen,  Keith Trostle,  Howard Rush,  Rich Oliver,  Joe Gilbert, Jeff Traxler,  Bill Rich.
A little breezy but most are working the kinks out.  Billy tells me he is ground crew this time.

Dave,
Sounds interesting, so who is actually going to fly for a spot on the team? Seems like we have a lot of "helpers" available there. When do they start official flights?

Has there been any discussion of the "drug testing" and how it will be done at the Worlds?

Best,          DennisT

I think it's an homage, not the actual original design (Stunt Machine, probably). Still, given Bob's track record, worth inquiring into.

We were fortunate to have the original model. Bob was able to use existing( Genes) model to create an accurate set of plans. The model was named USA-AMA  Gene flew model at the 1970 NATS.
The modeln is currently owned by Ray Moore's wife and  is in great condition.
The USA-AMA preceded the stunt machine

This is same the USA-AMA that Gene wind-flew,(amazing) at Flushing Meadows. I remember this ship. Figure eights without the engine! His Stunt Machine came later with the hopped up OS 35S and the flexing landing gear.

Hi Paul, it's more like "ex-tinguished" these days! I'm still thinking about going, but will see if I can make enough bucks to go again. I don't think that Poland will be much better organized than Bulgaria, but I enjoy the seeing all of the people. The US team is always a pleasure to see and of course they are always in contention for the top spots as well. This is why I'm curious to know who's doing the team trials. Thanks to Dave Trible for the updates and pics like those from your Nats!
