Is anyone building a Nostalgia 30 legal model?

If so, what is it?

Thanks!

Plan to refurbish my Tom Dixon designed "Phoenix" (modernized T-Bird). Always was a good flier and with a name like that it deserves to be reborn. 8)

Well, I will, soon enough, have a Rogue and one profile 660 Stilleto to have fun with... and further ahead this year, a Genesis mk III.
Talk about being nostalgic.... but I can't help it, just love those birds (PE**)

I have finished, but not flown a Stiletto 660 and have a Stiletto 585 on the paint stand. It may stay there until May as the rain we are getting just will not let up.  Too cold and damp to paint without fear.  I also have a new kit, the "Volunteer" for N30. H^^

How about some pictures of the Stilettos?

Hi Marcus. Is your Genesis III using Bob's lost foam method on the wing or the foam wing version?  I am building the lost foam version. Big plane.  I built a Genesis back in 1974, wish I still had it. D>K

Hi Ty

I'll get a foam wing from Bob. Wanna keep it as close as the original design I can.
How about some pics? To get us motivated... H^^

Hi Marcus,

I have a set of foam cores to build the Mk III.  Gonna use a PA .51 with a can muffler on the header.

Hi Bill

That will surely ensure no shortage of power...
That's a great design ship... If one day there were a hall of fame for models, the Genesis would certainly be there ;)

I always liked that one.  Good luck with it. The Smoother is cool too.

Thanks, I have considered the Smoother and have the plans. If my Phoenix is too far gone, I'll may go with that one...or the Sig Chipmunk I won on SH a year or so ago.  ;D

There are a lot of people building and flying  N-30  ships, I have been selling plans, parts etc  for many of them, all the way from Chipmonks  to Smith Noblers to Stiletto s

All the ships I've built and am building are going to be N-30 ships, they are just in various stages of eligibility.   :!

I guess you could call this a Resurrection. This is my Juno that I flew at the 1988 Nats. Found it last year after 20 years storage at my grandsons house in a box I had left with him. I brought the box with me to NC in 2002 and forgot about it. I replaced the complete fuselage bottom, rudder and elevator and a lot of ribs. I moved the gear to the wing and test flew it in December. I flew great so I did a little  color trim and built a set of wheel pants and flew it today. Flew really well and needed no trimming. So it is my N-30 model.

Bill,

I'm looking at either an Umland Stunt machine kit or my own design from high school - pic below

I also have the bones of a original plane from 1974-75 that I called the Comet that was based on  Bill Werwage late 1960 early 1970's planes. Smaller than the Juno but looks a lot like it.

Hi Randy
All 70s planes are N-30 legal, one big difference though in running a 70s contest is for just one example...someone shows with their new Plane, the USA-1 that was a great 70s plane, won the worlds in the 70s, captured many titles in the 70s, and was a 70s Icon...will NOT be allowed to fly. This is just one example of the downside, there are Many many more. It is better to be inclusive on this era , rather than exclude many and not allow participation.

Regards
Randy

Did I miss something here.  Where is it written that Super 70's will ever be flown at VSC?

It's on SSW - page 1, about 3/4 of the way down the page.  Posted by Jim Hoffman, 21 January - "Super 70s at VSC 2014".

Yep, that's why I'm thinking about it. Jim announced it at SSW. I don't have a lot of documentation on my design other than a half dozen pictures and the original drawings I did in high school (on butcher paper no less). So if other documentation was needed, I'd probably go with a Stunt Machine.

The USA-1 is Classic legal, so that's why it would not be allowed?  How about with a PA-51 and tuned pipe?   LL~ Steve

Yes that is the reason the USA-1  would  NOT be allowed to fly, the  PA engine has nothing to do with it and there is no rule against that, however when one make up an event and the club runs it, they can make any rules they want to, also they can with "official"  events too

So if someone shows up to fly in a 70's event with an older design, does that mean they are not allowed to enter???

Yes that is correct, they will not be allowed to fly

There does appear to be a defining difference between the "Super '70s" and Nostalgia 30.

Super '70s is just models from 1970 through 1979.

Nostalgia 30 is simply anything older than 30 years.  1983 is the eligible year now.  Anything from the beginning of C/L flying until Dec. 31, 1983.

I'm thinking about a Super 70s plane for next year's VSC. So I could fly in Classic with a Classic plane then fly in Super 70s with an appropriate plane. I assume that's correct.

Randy That is the only contest that I know of that is doing that. Locally we let you fly what ever it is up to 1979. But that is the reason no one bothers to build a 1970's plane. For years I heard a lot of people saying I would love to build a particular model but it is to late for the 1969 cutoff. At the level most people fly at a well built 70's model would be more than adequate for Pampa classes. Just my ramblings  n1 ~^ VD~

Hi Eddy,

Actually the Huntersville Meet is using Nostalgia 30 rules which allow models through 1983 this year............

Well, I may go ahead with my own design from 1972. It was a cool plane. Wonder if I can find an old McCoy 40 Series 21 that isn't a piece of junk for it (that was the original engine as I remember). Hmm, maybe not. It was pretty gutless.

I totally agree, Ed.  A good NOS. 30 model (or even a good Classic design) would serve very well for a "PAMPA" plane for almost everyone at least through Advanced.

And it would allow twice as many flights in front of judges using only one plane for PAMPA and NOS. 30/Classic.

I can say that the USA-1 I built was perfectly competitive in PAMPA Expert. Well, in other hands than mine, anyway.
