Romancing the Wind - Kite Flying
« on: October 14, 2012, 06:40:55 PM »
My first "New Topic" post, but I figured this is worth sharing as it is about as close to control line flying as you can get, less the model airplane.  Apologies if this has already been posted.  If you haven't seen this, enjoy, it is spectacular!

My 7 year old grandaughter is a competent stunt kite flyer!  I am working on my 5 year old grandson.  It is a bit early for the 3 year old twins....
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

I'm proud to announce the locations of that footage. The stunt kites were in Vanier Park , Vancouver, with the Burrard bridge in the background, and the other location is either Kitsilano beach or Jerico Beach, Vancouver,( just a bit further West). I did meet that guy once at a kite festival in Vanier Park. My dad was involved in that before he died , and took me along a couple of times.
That is a remarkable demo. And the music just fits so well.  Keith

This video brings up a couple of questions about how is it all done.   Three kites two hands.  I assume that in some cases he is holding two in one hand. Imagine the line tension. Now ,do the kites have a tendency to stick together when flown together?Seems so.  Keith

Watch out if Donnie Shultz sees this. He is a stunt kite maniac.

I have known my amazingly gifted kite friend from Canada Ray BETHELL starting waaaay back in my early kite competiton daze-days during the late 80's through the next 20 years. What a blessing for anyone who loves music and things that fly on strings just to see him fly his gaggle of kites...to choro music at the festivals is truly a beautiful thing.

Do read about his life and gifts that he still brings to so many addicted kite-krazeees..all over the world.Sadly he has lost virtually all of his hearing...but still feels the music through the vibrations of those large Bose speakers that are set up close to his staging areas at these kite events.
bye the way...CHRIS!!
That video showing one of my friend MARK REED, my old kite sponsor flying those pretty little Prism kites in one of our usual flying sites... was shot INSIDE A EMPTY BOEING HANGER.  If we timed things right during expensive down times or work period breaks at the Boeing Wind Tunnel's BALL ROOM. We would fly those kites in the smoooooooooooothest preset light wind speed that were used during model changes or maintence sessions to maintain the wind tunnels exact temps.  Once I was lucky enough to sweet talk our Boeing PR Photo manager to allow the photo group to shoot photos and a video of MARK FLYING these kites that his PRISM COMPANY could use for their early www.prismkites.com web site and also for their store stuffer pamplets.
Those daze of playing with kites in the windtunnel sadly it would appear are gone forever...
LONG LIVE OUR MEMORIES OF RAY BETHELL...HE RULES THE WIND between the earth n sky...up where the angels fly.
