Benol-What is Added?
« on: July 06, 2012, 10:20:32 AM »
Benol is supposed to be a degummed, fortified castor oil. What is added besides dye and perfume?

What's it smell like? Does it smell like bananas, per chance?  :-\ Steve

Great stuff!  It is pink, and smells like cherry juice!  I don't think there any additives beyond the odor and the de-gumming agent.  I've used it for years in race bikes, with great results.  It is a bit spendy though! :o

Cherry? Sometimes, I put coconut scent in my fuel to entertain Da Dirt. Tower sells it in the car section.  y1 Steve

Yep, it is a very pleasant cherry smell!  People didn't mind being behind me in a race when I ran it, but not so much any more, as I'm running Castrol A747, which is a castor/synthetic blend.

Is that stuff good for model fuel?

Probably, but it is out of production now.  I bought a case when the announcement was made that it wouldn't be available any more. :(

We have to compete on various levels! ;->

That lovely "pink" smell of red O-Cedar oil (not for a model airplane!) is almond.. Wish Icould have some fuel that smelled like that - I'll bet my maneuver points would increase a little.
