Line clips as part of the cable leadouts
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:56:10 PM »
I came up with this trick a few years back.
It cleans things up a bit!

Interesting idea.  I think I'd wrap them, but the result would be the same.

Do you form the clip, or are you getting it from someone else?

Think how much cleaner yet you'd be if you started with solid leadouts!!

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Many years ago when I used solid leadouts, (I didn't know any better) I used to bend my ends just like that. y1

These days I prefer multi-strand leadouts.

Hi Bob
Another cool idea, I like that it seems less-prone to having the clips and ends rolling over & hanging up.  Is that 1/32 wire?

Hi, Dennis - yes, it does indeed prevent or at least minimise the ends from hanging up.

The wire was, as I recall, around .028 for those photos.
Of course, the size would be tailored to the application (plane size).

I do the same thing, but bound and soldered onto a pair of 0.016" braided steel combat lines per leadout. I cover the join with heatshrink and slide a 1" piece of soft fuel tube over the clip and line eyelet once the lines are connected up to prevent them getting hung up or interfering with each other.

My main model is very heavy and they cope exactly as you'd want them to.

With 0.027 stainless leadouts the properly swaged crimps as illustrated above are probably best.
