Saito 56 : Best Props' Please ?

Greetings all from the Charente.

I've gone in for a Saito 56 , the factory c/l version. My first c/l four stroke.

May I ask please :

What prop' would you recommend for running -in ?

What are the best 'flying' props' ?

Should I use all synthetic fuel ? My two strokes  run all castor , or a synthetic/castor mix.

Lastly , how much running-in is needed please ?

Rev-Up 13-7 or 13-71/2, Carbon fiber 3 blade 13-6 undercamber. YS 20-20 all synthetic fuel, plastic clunk tank on muffler pressure. You can use almost any 13 inch prop for break in but the two props listed above will give you the best performance in the air. Also you can use a Castor blend for break in but run YS 20-20 or something like it once you get it on the airplane. Run it for at least an hour on the bench in 10 minute spurts letting it cool between runs. The hard part with a CL intake is keeping it below whatever RPM the book says for the first few minutes, I stick an RC carb on for break in which solves the problem.

The saito CL spray bar comes with the outlet hole too small, drill it out to the same size as a PA needle assy. Can't remember the drill size off the top of my head. Design some way to be able to adjust the intake choke area. A nylon screw down the throat works. Read the notes at the bottom of this web page.

I'm running a Reeve's modified carb with a plastic clunk tank, YS 20/20, OS f plug.
I use a Master Airscrew 3 blade 12X8 and it runs very smooth and consistent. A 12X6 might work for break-in.
Saitos take a bit longer to break in than say a YS.
I highly recommend the Reeve modifications.

Just curious what rpm you launch at with the MA 12X8 3-blade?   I could never get pass 6800rpm.

I run either the Sullivan or Dubro 4 ounce clunk tanks, do not use the one with the slant front, use the one that looks like a bottle. The 4 ounce Sullivan slant front tanks only hold 3 1/2 - 3 3/4 ounces which isn't enough under some conditions.

I mount all my 4 strokes on the side. I believe they oil better and you get better speed control because the tank is located inside the intake.

That Saturn must be slick as heck as far as wind resistance. I measured a couple Master Airscrew 3 blade 8 pitch props several years ago and came up with less than 6 pitch. At that point I gave up the idea of using one and never thought about it again. Only time I had to run under 8 grand with any prop was when I was using a Rev-up 13-7.5 which measured 7 on a Score and even then the ground RPM was around 7800. The JFX 13-6 reverse pitch prop I have on the Latency measures right at 6 and I run it at 8100.

The Saturn is definitely on the slick side..  (not draggy enough) I was almost going to try the older .50 on it.  But decided to go the .40VF on pipe route.     The Master Airscrew  12x8 3-blade I was using was repitched to true 8" pitch. as I've find that the pitch are not consistent from blade to blade on a lot of the MA 3-blades.. (it varies from 5.5 -7)  even with other sizes.  So, I pitched them all to 7"on the Prather guage + 1" from the phillip entry LE  = 8.   maybe if I left it stock it will run higher rpm..  

I was going to try the JXF 13x6 tractor on the Score with the .56, but they're still back order  .  Just to compare with the Pusher JXF prop after the cam swap, but they're also out of stock.

Think I just received the last they had of the reverse pitch 13-6. Tried to order a dozen but they only had 10. They were saying they should be back in stock in aprox 11 days.
